On Wilde and Cameos.

First of all, Melissa is fucking brilliant. If you haven't read any of her stuff, you should. But that's beside the point at the moment (though you really should). Let me explain to you what exactly happened tonight that made me so happy - especially after the disk fiasco that I am still denying ever happened. (*sits in the corner and chants* I did not lose my work, I did not lose my work, I did not lose my work...)

For those of you familiar with "After the End", this will make a little more sense, but bear with me if you aren't.

Now, a while back, a story was started - by Melissa - exploring the "what if" part of fanfiction - and literature altogether, I think - what if JKR loaned her characters to A & Z while she was writing Book 5? What if they are the real characters, and A & Z are simply playing around with them in "AtE"? The story is called "Intermissions" and it's the actual characters' interactions between the scenes of "AtE". Sometimes JKR leaves them little notes. They talk to her. They talk to A & Z. It's all extremely well-done, well-written, funny and clever. I could kiss her just for that.

But...tonight, she updated. Now, I'd seen most of the chapter earlier, during the summit, but I was in for a surprise. Ooooooh, boy, was I in for a surprise!

This chapter is nothing short of brilliant. What she did here was, she made them go out and meet other fanfiction versions of themselves. That's right. Regular!Ron met DeathEater!Ron. Regular!Harry met Good!Draco (what he was wearing, I shall not tell you, for it is a great secret...heheh). And almost every bad cliche known in the fanon book is thrown in there. It is absolutely hysterical. We see SleekHair!Hermione, Americanized!Ginny, Tutu!Sirius, etc, etc, etc.

At some point, our heroes (Ron, Harry, Ginny, Bill, Remus and Sirius) come to a door. There is nothing on the door but this: "/".

This is is what happens:

"Say, Remus...how about a drink?" said Sirius, obviously trying to sound offhand and failing miserably.

Remus' eyes crinkled. "I think just one."

Sirius hesitated, and then: "We'd ask you all to come along, but-"

"It might change things," piped in Remus. "You understand."

Actually, Ron didn't understand, and that was exactly the point. He knew he wasn't allowed to. "Have fun."

They were just saying goodbye when the door to the pub swung open and a young girl hurried out, looking somewhat flushed. She pushed her short brunette hair out of her eyes, then went to the streetlamp to untie the leashes of several large, black dogs. The animals responded instantly to her presence, jumping on her front and licking her face and arms. She turned to Sirius and Remus and held out her free hand. "I'm Arianrhod. Big fan. You're going in there?" she asked, tilting her head toward the building.

Sirius nodded, shaking her hand.

"I thought you would." And with a smile and a wave, she was off, the dogs leading her down the twilit lane.

"A fan? She...reads us?"

"Apparently," said Remus.

"I wonder how she got here," said Bill.

Sirius shrugged. "Well, goodnight." And, making no attempt to hide the childish grin on his face, he followed Remus into the bar.

Can you guess who that was?

::CACKLECACKLECACKLE::

I almost fell to the floor when that happened. It was definitely one of those "Whhhhhhhoaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!" moments. Made my freaking month!

I have been dubbed by prettyannamoon "The Wizarding Dogwalker", and am known for being militantly pro-R/S over at the Quill. And Melissa has had the personal pleasure *coughpoorwomancough* of hearing me go on and on and on and...well, you get the picture. I'm walking dogs!!! GAH!

I simply had to share. Melissa was very proud. :D

And now, on Wilde...

Of course, this always happens - if I want to see something, a movie, a show - they will always show it on TV - right when I don't know about it. Which is why when I turned on the TV today, I saw Jennifer Ehle getting out of a carriage and walking into a home that contained none other than Stephen Fry looking his most Oscar Wilde-nesque. It was an hour into the movie. ARGH. I looked to see whether or not Bravo would show it again, but nooooo, they showed it yesterday. So, after squealing and whining, I decided to actually watch it, beginning be damned.

And, ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh...

That is all I can say. That's all I'm capable of saying.

It was...it was...it was...arrrrrrgh!.. Stephen Fry was absolutely brilliant - just...perfect. They all were. I wish I'd seen it from the beginning, but even as it was, I was inspired to pick up Oscar Wilde again. Unfortunately, we only have the Russian translations in this house of Ten Thousand Million Books - which I find disturbing. I don't want to read him in a translation, no matter how good it is. But once I get the chance - most likely, over the pond - I will definitely pick him up again.

Just...oh. *sigh*

I even checked whether the libraries had the movie before today, and they didn't - just my luck I should turn the stupid TV on an hour late...

But I got to see Stephen Fry for the first time since reading his books, and it was wonderful. And, hey! His nose really is crooked!..

I was thinking of you the entire time.

And, 'ere I go, I would just like to thank [livejournal.com profile] percy_weatherby for hosting my stuff and letting me share his webspace. Thank you! *snuggles*

Hi ho, hi ho, and off to bed I go...
