Back to...

Well, I am back in Boston. And, apparently, I am going away this weekend. You might ask: "Where?" And I might answer: "Somewhere where I haven't been in two years."

My parents are going to Ithaca for the weekend, and I only now found out. I get to see my best friends! Yay! I haven't been in Ithaca for ages, and it feels so odd. I can't believe I'm actually going. It's just strange. But if I run into anybody from my high school, I might run for the hills. (And there are plenty of those there.)

So, the thing with abebooks.com continues. Just out of curiosity, I went and looked for a book that I haven't been able to find anywhere except two university libraries (Cornell and NYU). It's a Russian book, one of my favorites, by Frida Vigdorova, and it was only published once or twice, back in the 1960's. My mom owned it, but then it got lost, I think, and we could never find it again anywhere. Well, abebooks.com found it. For $11.95. It's being shipped over from England even as I type. Excuse me.

WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Anyway, I know I mentioned stupid commercials earlier, but I completely forgot about one of the funniest commercials EVER (and, no, JoJo, it isn't the sucking English man with the vacuum, though that's a close second). It's one of the GEICO commercials, where you think you're watching a soap opera, and the woman says, sobbing, to the man:

"I love you, but I realize that as long as you're with Jessica, there can never be anything between us."

She walks towards the camera, still sobbing, and he looks at the back of her head, and says:

"Yes, but I have good news."

"You're leaving Jessica?" Hope flares in her eyes.

"No," he says intensely. "I just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to GEICO."

Still crying, she breaks off from him, and goes off-camera. He looks after her, deadpan, and says, with feeling:

"I saved! I thought that meant something to you!"

Come on. If this isn't art, I don't know what is. *g*

Off to hopefully get that job, and buy hair dye. Back to black. So to speak.

Are you from around there? I think I knew this, but still...cool! I lived there for 8 years, before my parents moved to Boston (I was already a sophomore in college by the point). It was the first place I lived in in the States. Gave me quite an interesting perspective on the country, at first. *g* It's a beautiful, gorgeous place, and I often wish we hadn't moved, but I love Boston now, too. :)

Ohhh man. The book and Ithaca! The book. And Ithaca. That's pretty freaking woah, man. Dude!

*hugs lots*

Also, that advert sounds hilarious and you look lovely even when not dyed black. :)

Yep, I live about 45 minutes away. It's such a cool place. Boston is awesome too. You're very lucky! :)

I know! And I just got my Sex in Lit. final and final paper in the mail with my sunglasses! Whoohoo!

*hugs back lots and lots*

The GEICO commercials are hysterical. That one is my favorite, though. Hopefully they'll still have it around Christmas... *g*

I love just about every GEICO commercial ever, but that one is like my favorite.

[identity profile] mrsronweasley.livejournal.com 2004-05-27 12:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Isn't it hysterical? I laugh every time I see it. Sam and I are still trying to figure out how they did it without cracking up. It's just too perfect.

I thought that meant something to you!

I love that commercial :)

In other news, the Worst Commercial Ever is the ad for "Six Flags" with the old guy dancing to the Venga Boys.

For an absurd reason, it makes me laugh. But at the same time, I hate it with a PASSION. I'm not sure how those two work themselves out, but yeah. Actually, my least favorite one is Universal Orlando. Totally stereotypical and prejudiced. UGH.

MWAH!

I don't know, dude. . .the scene where the couple making out gets the ice cream dropped all over them crax me up every time. Probably because I totally want to do that to couples publicly making out.
