On Tea and Brighton.

There is nothing better than a cup of perfectly sweetened Earl Grey to relax after finding out that your life is, in fact, not over. And that you won't have to fork up 85 bucks for a new passport because you were stupid enough to lose your first one - or go to the American Embassy in London to do so. Yesterday's cup of tea was one of the best I'd ever had.

Yesterday, I also finally ventured out into Brighton with Marie and Theresa. We found a little natural health food restaurant that I was told about, and had lunch there - it was lovely (and relatively cheap!). Brighton is beautiful. I love the little winding roads, the little shops (window shopping, it's all about window shopping), the...the everything. It's simply lovely. And it isn't forced, or fake - it just is. Many a time, a place will be made to look like something - Brighton simply is like that. It's wonderful.

Last night, all the people on my floor were going to the Freshers' Ball, but I couldn't since I'm poor. However, instead, I listened to music (after having borrowed a portable stereo), then went downstairs and wrote - finished a story, in fact, we'll see if it's any good later today. Halloween. Remus. Sirius. Unspoken feelings. Made PG especially for the Sugar Quill. ;) (I could have gone to PG-13 with this contest, but this was better, somehow.)

And read a gorgeous poem by WH Auden for the tenth time when David put it on SQ. (You gotta scroll down a bit...past some of those other poems...) Oh, it was so beautiful... I had to share, as well. Hehe. Guess which one I used... (*coughthemorelovingonecough*) I don't know where that came from, really! ;)

And registration is today. More queuing. The British are very protective of their queues, aren't they? Whoa, that must be spelled wrong. I have no energy to think up the correct spelling, so I'll leave it - feel free to correct me. I won't mind. I promise.

Oh! And I finally have something to cook in - a wok-type pan - and a duvet! I finally slept under a fluffy blanket last night and it was wonderful. Mmmmm, fluffy duvet... mmmm, cooked food...

And congratulations, you! I knew you'd make it - and look, you did! My magical powers work, I tell you. I can do Divination! :P

Oh, what the hell!

Lullaby
by W.H. Auden

Lay your sleeping head, my love,
Human on my faithless arm;
Time and fevers burn away
Individual beauty from
Thoughtful children, and the grave
Proves the child ephemeral:
But in my arms till break of day
Let the living creature lie,
Mortal, guilty, but to me
The entirely beautiful.

Soul and body have no bounds:
To lovers as they lie upon
Her tolerant enchanted slope
In their ordinary swoon,
Grave the vision Venus sends
Of supernatural sympathy,
Universal love and hope;
While an abstract insight wakes
Among the glaciers and the rocks
The hermit's sensual ecstasy.

Certainty, fidelity
On the stroke of midnight pass
Like vibrations of a bell,
And fashionable madmen raise
Their pedantic boring cry:
Every farthing of the cost,
All the dreaded cards foretell,
Shall be paid, but from this night
Not a whisper, not a thought,
Not a kiss nor look be lost.

Beauty, midnight, vision dies:
Let the winds of dawn that blow
Softly round your dreaming head
Such a day of sweetness show
Eye and knocking heart may bless,
Find the mortal world enough;
Noons of dryness see you fed
By the involuntary powers,
Nights of insult let you pass
Watched by every human love.
