On Random Things...

So, most of you guessed nine movies out of ten. Good for you! The one that you missed was this one:

4) "Was it a rat?" "Yeah, a great big one."

[livejournal.com profile] dianora, I'm disappointed in you, dear. This was the other Kevin Spacey movie, one of my favorite movies ever - "L.A. Confidential".

Moving on -

Yay, [livejournal.com profile] soupytwist finished "At Swim"! Love, check your email if you haven't yet. There's a surprise waiting for you. Heh.

By the way, I think [livejournal.com profile] mombi_of_oz and I have agreed that we need to promote this book, and I think it's a damn good way to World Domination. So. Don't thikn you're safe. Resistance is futile. When I have more time, I shall work on this. *cue evil laughter*

The significant other is insane. His significant other isn't much better. Just thought I'd share. We really need to stop talking when it's four am my time. I think this may be partially the reason for the insanity.

And now for something completely different - some of you may recognize a few very easily, others might not. And a few of you will recognise your own words. So...

Top Fifteen Fanfiction First Lines -

1) "Harry hadn't looked at all well, at lunch time, and thoughts of what might be bothering him were greatly bothering Hermione now."

2) `Want the last poppadom?'

3) "The Astronomy classroom was seething with anticipation."

4) "Is Sirius missing ALL of dinner, then?" Peter mumbled through a mouth full of baked potato, eyeing Sirius' portion speculatively.

5) “Sirius bounded forward on all fours, and fell onto his back, legs in the air.”

6) “Nobody was surprised by the announcement.”

7) “Snow whirled around the three boys as they tramped down the main street of Hogsmeade, their faces reddened by frigid blasts of wind.”

8) “Admittedly, the last week of May had been wretched, with uniformly grey and sodden days. James had spent hours at the dormroom window, watching the early roses turn to wads of rotting petals.”

9) “I've been a bartender for a few years now.”

10) “Sirius closed the door behind the last of the porters and turned to survey his room at the Leaky Cauldron.”

11) “He changes into a man because he's aching for a cigarette.”

12) ““Hedwig!” Harry grumbled irritably, flailing his arms about so as to make the owl who’d been pecking at his head disappear.”

13) “Harry hesitated outside the dungeon door. I passed my NEWTs, he reminded himself firmly.”

14) “Severus Snape cursed softly over his frothing cauldron.”

15) “Something pounded repeatedly against Sirius Black’s temple – something cold and hard and slightly damp.”

~*~

Any guesses?..

And whoever is recalling "Atlas Shrugged" bites the big one. I'm only now starting to really get into this book (though, amazingly, still hardly making a dent - I'm on 204, and this book has a thousand more pages to offer, gyahahahaa) - and it's due tomorrow. But never fear. The fight over the first 200 pages is over. The fight for The Book begins. They want to recall the book? Two can play that game.

Ha!

I'm evil - and I like it.

Mwahahahahahahaaaaa....

1. Not as a Last Resort

I know none of the others. Must go hang my head in shame now. *Does so*

:-D

Yours in fanfiction,

2) "Set on Fire", by Roche. Mmmmm.... The title is an apt description of how I feel after reading the story.

11) "No Stray", by Canis M. Beautiful restrained angst.

12) "Quill and Ink", by Cybele. Yum!

and I should know 4 and 5. Damn my memory, or lack thereof.

One of them is mine, so I won't give that one. Thank you!

3) is "Waiting for Ganymede" by Canis M.

But I don`t know about the others... *sigh*

dianora, I'm disappointed in you, dear. This was the other Kevin Spacey movie, one of my favorite movies ever - "L.A. Confidential".

OH! Now I hear the voice - for some reason I was imagining some little kids being like, "Was it a rat?!?! Eep!!!" and all. Mwah. Silly me.

But yeah. That was also a great movie.

#14 - Down from the Tree: Actions, #15 - Down from the Tree: Consequences. *worships*

And, of course, #5 would be that beautiful and eternally unfinished The Unknown Want.

You've got some of my favourites in here, too: The Unknown Want (5); Waiting For Ganymede (3); Care and Feeding (6)... And number 7 is the first HP story I ever betaed, which I feel enormous affection for. Till Break of Day (13) and Whom He May Devour (8). I'm good at this! Am I winning so far?

And thank you for one of the others; I'm immensely flattered.

Not unrelated: that Request went this weekend; and I'll be in touch with you soon.

I would have been surprised if you'd gotten some of these! ;) It's all good.

[identity profile] mrsronweasley.livejournal.com 2003-02-02 12:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Mmmmm.... The title is an apt description of how I feel after reading the story.

Oh God, yes. I don't know how many times I've read that story by now, but it always, always leaves an impression. Without fail.

"Quill and Ink", by Cybele. Yum!

And then some. The first time I read that I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. Still do, in fact, every time I read it...mmmm...

And you're very welcome. :)

[identity profile] mrsronweasley.livejournal.com 2003-02-02 12:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, and yes - you will be kicking yourself once you find out what 4 and 5 were. Heh.

[identity profile] mrsronweasley.livejournal.com 2003-02-02 12:51 pm (UTC)(link)
It certainly is. And can you spot the other Canisisms?

[identity profile] mrsronweasley.livejournal.com 2003-02-02 12:54 pm (UTC)(link)
It *was* a rather misleading quote, I admit. ;) I just was drawing a total blank on that movie, and that was the first thing I'd remembered.

And, hey, you're good! I didn't think people'd get the last two. ;) *worships*, indeed. *wibble*

[identity profile] mrsronweasley.livejournal.com 2003-02-02 12:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, you're good! You even got 8, which I honestly was not expecting anyone to get. I'm very impressed. And 7 is just...fantastic. I adore that story. It was the first HP story you betaed? Really? Wow. What a way to start. ;)

You're very welcome. :)

Not unrelated: that Request went this weekend; and I'll be in touch with you soon.

You are amazing. Thank you so much!

#4 is "Boys Own Camping Adventure." I thought it was Canis M. too, and it took me forever to realize that it wasn't.

[identity profile] mrsronweasley.livejournal.com 2003-02-02 02:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Damn, you're good. I was hoping someone'd get that one. You rock.

*kicks self*

[identity profile] miraminx.livejournal.com 2003-02-02 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
You're right. Given how many times I've read those stories, I should definitely have remembered their titles!
