I got up this morning all happy that there would be DS fic from you waiting for me, and YAY there it is and so much fun to read and YAY YAY YAY I DO THE HAPPY DANCE OMG.

*randomly hugs her gorgeous and talented wifey just because she wants to :D*

I loved the change in tone through this, and how it kept the essential Rayness throughout - you've got a real way of writing Ray's voice (hi, Ray's voice! I like you too!), and keeping that sense of Ray through the beginning bit where he's tired and stewing in his own head, through to the end where it all comes together (er... heh) is a real accomplishment. I never doubted I was reading Ray through some big changes in tone and feel, and yeah, I'm impressed. Like how the words at the beginning are all... smushed together, there's a lot of them and they're all tripping over each other, and it's just. so. very. Ray. in a way that's really kind of wonderful. And then at the end it's all smooth, much more... hmm I think crafted is maybe the word I mean, the sentences flow beautifully, and yet it still feels like Ray, and adds an extra dimension to the story because hell yes Ray talks better with his hands and his eyes than he does with his words.

And there's a real sense of that, I think: that the sex is them finally getting to say everything they wanted to before but couldn't, quite, of finally understanding and getting somewhere they've always been driving towards. Which is exactly what I tend to be looking for in Fraser/RayK fic, and one of the things that's often lacking. You did that and made it work, and the payoff is so very much better for it: Ray seeing all Fraser's scars ends up really freaking meaning something. How exactly you managed this I wish I knew, but things like Ray wondering if that's the first time he's heard Fraser say hey are totally part of it, and just, wow, you.

Like, and apparently I'm going to ramble about this because I was just that impressed, I maybe squeed at Ray saying "did you maybe want to stay or", because I was just so happy for them that they had made it to that point, that they were going to get the happiness they deserved. And, y'know, after reading a frankly ridiculous number of fanfics, that really does not happen very often. Before they got to the apartment, there were moments that occasionally tripped my internal reality sensor or whatever it is (not more than you'd find in any novel, even among the best, but occasionally: the move between the first paragraph and the second, and for some reason the line "but that didn't fit either, did it?", but that's, like, it), but from the second they got into Ray's flat I hardly breathed or even registered I was reading a story. Which is really damn rare for me, especially with sex scenes: I tend to either find them stupid and funny, or feel slightly bad for spying on the characters when they're doing something which makes anybody look ridiculous. But not with yours, not once. I don't know how you did that, either, but I wish I did. :)
