And omg I hadn't thought that not realising quite how sad Fraser's life is sometimes might partly be for Ray's own comfort, but that does make total sense. If you love somebody then you don't want them to feel bad, and that can sometimes mean your brain subconciously tries not to focus on signs that they are feeling bad, because it knows that that'll make you feel bad. You want the security and comfort of knowing that your loved ones are OK and happy, especially if you yourself aren't feeling that OK or happy. But like you said, Ray's not insensitive or mean or stupid, and once he knows he will care and he will try to make things better. Which is just one of many reasons to adore him to itty bitty pieces.
And I love you too. Which is also a bit redundant, but I do not care for it should be shouted to the hills that you are fabulous, dammit. :)
