Wow.
Just two days ago, I was trying to suppress the feeling of resentment towards anything having to do with Russia, for reasons I'm not even fully sure of, and just tonight, we watched three of my favorite Russian cartoons with my family and our guests and it was FANTASTIC. I always told people that Russian cartoons were the best, and tonight just proved it all over again. Besides which, they brought back a piece of childhood that I actually DO want to think about, and made me so happy. Gah. Russian cartoons are so the best. Forget Looney Tunes, forget Disney. It's all about "Karlson" or "Bremenskie Muzykanty". So clever, so touching, so funny, so creative. We were all rolling on the floor - these things never get old - and even Sam, who only knew what was going on through the action or my sporadic comments, really liked them. Just goes to show. And then I started going through all my old favorite Russian books, and am now really looking forward to rereading a few of them this summer. And watching my old favorite movies. I also realized that I can watch the Russian Sherlock Holmes movies featuring - oh yes - my favorite actor. Life is good.
And I keep looking over at the my signed 'At Swim' and smiling. That never gets old, either.

And speaking of "At Swim," as I was reading some of my favorite passages today, it suddenly struck me how much I sympathized with the Boots character -- the boy who fancied Doyler. I know it's all about the Jim and Doyler love, but I couldn't help feeling extremely sorry for the guy when I re-read the scene where Doyler basically uses him. I wish JON had given his character some resolution, because if I remember correctly (it's been awhile since I read the book in its entirety) that's the last we saw of him, isn't it? Looking back, I thought he was one of the most sympathetic characters. Did you and JON happen to talk about him at all during your meeting?
Anyway, just a random thought, since I happened to re-read that scene today.

They're short - 10 or 15 minutes - but they're not like Looney Tunes in terms of it being the same characters in different situations. They may be based on books, etc. Oh, man, they're fantastic. *sigh*
And about Boots - I'll email ya. ;) But I know what you mean, it's very sad. My heart goes out to him each time, he is SO lonely, and just wants a friend... gah. :-/
I'll email today! Really! :-P

meant to comment on your last few posts but lifes been hectic. Am very happy to hear you speak about home. Home is so important to everything we do and it's a wonderful thing to keep you grounded. Hold onto it. (Like you'd let go!)
And as for parents we can't pick them. But you know who you are, and don't let them undermine it ever.
Sorry for the already-stated-in-other-people's-comments-ness. Take care.
