And your mom, too.

Do you know what I want to say to all the people in the new music videos that have come out in the past year?

KEEP IT SUBTLE, STUPID.

Repeat after me:

- shaking your ass like that is not sexy and does not make me want you
- showing as much skin from as many angles is not sexy either
- being doused in water is not sexy anymore either

I may sound like I'm from the last century, but honestly, all that skin has begun to get to me. I don't want to see women shaking their asses at me, or revealing all their body parts except for the ones that will get blotted out. It's just...it isn't sexy. Two undone buttons at the collar is so much more sexy then what I keep seeing. Sorry. It just is. It's more interesting, it's subtler, it leaves mystique and gives you something to imagine when all is said and done. And often my imagination is more interesting, anyway.

ANYWAY.

It took me forever, but I finally got to Anna's and we watched 'Y Tu Mama Tambien'. That movie keeps getting better and better. It was also an adventure to watch it with the risk of her conservative Russian uncle coming in and seeing people, er, coming.

All in all, HP3 is in good hands. Bwahahahahaha!

We were also going to make pretty icons but her computer died on us... damn. Damn the man.

And otherwise, my life is still boring is shit. In fact, it could be argued that shit is more interesting than my life at this point, and that is sad, indeed.

Ok, one last thing:

New music sucks. Someone bring me a few decades back. Evanescence, what? They suck! And the video just pisses me off. It's stupid, ok? STUPID! And musicians have simply sold out. It's sad and depressing and I'm sure Sid Vicious and Kurt Cobain and Jim Morrison are rolling in their graves. Well, what can you do. Everything must go.

WHY must I tell you what this window is for, mom? Why? Why am I all of a sudden 'mean' or 'bitchy' for not telling you about JUST ONE LITTLE THING? I am NOT going to tell you, so just fucking accept it! You cannot bully me around anymore, so just GET THE FUCK OVER IT!

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Agree about the sexy, disagree about the music. heh.

Hehe, and that is ok. :)

That's exactly why I don't listen to the radio or watch music television (or much tv at all), unless someone else in the room/car/whatever wants it on. I hate it all. I hate the fakey punk kids, I hate the whiny woe-is-me-my-girlfriend-left assholes, I hate the wannabe sexy 14-year-olds, I hate them all. I'd rather pick my music than have it picked for me, you know?

I looove you! don't let it get you down, dear.

Sam would love you for that one. I agree.

I hate the wannabe sexy 14-year-olds

Oh God, D-I-T-T-O.

I definitely like picking my own music, or getting it on friends' recommendations. Ugh.

But I love you too! And I still haven't called! I'm an asshole! But would you believe it, I WAS actually busy all day yesterday - first, doing stuff for school, then I left... WAH. Today isn't looking good, either, but tomorrow - I will try, dammit!

MWAH!

That Evanescence video is hilarious ("Bring Me To Life" or whatever the hell it's called). I crack up every time the chick falls and then Mr. Angsty Man goes all anguished and "I've been livin' a lie, blah blah BLAASHGDLHKASD!"

Never fails to bring a smile to my face.

Last night my friend Sarah was planning on corrupting Little Innocent "I'm 17 and think that I'm Harry Potter!" Matt with Y Tu Mama Tambien, but the library didn't have it. So she settled on Quills, but I don't think he was very corrupted.

I know, and I look at it, and I just think: does anybody actually take it seriously? ANY of it? They're singing while she's about to fall of the fucking roof and he's trying to get her up, and it is the most pathetic thing ever. Sadly, it doesn't bring a smile to my face, only makes me scowl at the stupidity of it all. I have this problem of not being able to laugh at 'stupid'. I really should learn how to, my life would be so much better...

I bet 'Y Tu Mama Tambien' would do the trick, though. ;) Bwahhahahaahah... Gotta love it.

...aaaand I know I owe you an email. Damn. It'll get there.

Everyone I know thinks I'm very weird because most of the artists I listen to are as old or older than my mother.

I don't CARE! I LIKE my Cher, Madonna, Queen, Beatles, Elton John, Cream, and other questionable music choices!

YES! Couldn't agree with you more, Liz, all this 'skin exposure' (to say it mildly) is getting on my nerves.

But I do like some of the new music, though. :D

Yeah, the skin exposure is just not interesting anymore... Bleagh.

Yes, the videos are all exactly the same, and it's just not interesting. Not a single one of them has anything to add, or anything original to show or an interesting new message to send about either art or life. It's just such crap.

And I don't think it's hypocritical, because they're different things. Besides, that picture that you posted? It's gorgeous. In terms of composition, and feeling, and purely from an artistic point of view - it was beautiful! The videos are redundunt and just plain boring. And if I wanted to analyze them in terms of structure, I'd say their color schemes are not interesting, and the choreography is all the same, and... anyway.

I hate the pseudo-goth-metal they have going now. It's such bullshit. And it IS all completely obvious.

Oh, and about the icons - oh, no! I LOVED those, I meant to email you. See, we were going to play around with them at Anna's, but her computer broke. Poor girl. So, we couldn't. But, no, Ni, I loved them! I will try to come up with what to say in them... Heheh...

I've missed you. I'm sorry I wasn't on AIM yesterday - I was really tired. And it sounds like I missed Jo, as well. Damn!

I love you!

Exactly! Bring on the naked men shaking their asses at me!!

*ahem* Er, I personally love nudity. I say the more the merrier. :D I'm a regular ol' perve though. :D

But, I feel you about the old music. I caught myself saying, "in my day, music meant something" the other day. I miss my music.

I love nudity, too, but after a while, it all starts to get too much. I like naked boys and girls as much as the next perv, but it gets boring after a while, and that's the last thing I want nudity to become, you know? I'd like to have a bit of mystery, every now and then. It's just more fun in my head.

I miss my music, too. I wish we could bring some people back, but no can do. Besides, they'd take one look at their 'contemporaries' and shoot themselves (some of them, all over again). It's sad, really.

Yes, I see what you're saying... I guess... here's what bugs me more. Like, when there's someone that starts out claiming to be all innocent and pure, than goes all slut. I guess that's why Christina Aguilera never bugs me. And plus, I almost feel like it's a good thing these girls are doing this. It's their choice, and I think in some ways it can be empowering. I dunno...

and shoot themselves (some of them, all over again).

Like, when there's someone that starts out claiming to be all innocent and pure, than goes all slut.

Ah. Well, I think that's probably their prerogative, just as much as it is to dance around half-naked. I know what you mean, and I think people need to reevulate what's more important to them. On the one hand, why is it so important to promote 'sexual purity'? I don't think it's important at all, and people should do what they feel like. On the other hand, yeah, I don't like all the blatant sexuality on TV nowadays, but not because it's sexual and therefore bad (I mean, this is me talking ehre) but because I find it boring and redundant and think it could be handled quite a bit better. I don't want to take the sexuality out of it - I just want it handled better. In a way that might actually interest me. Does that make sense?

It's their choice, and I think in some ways it can be empowering. I dunno...

I don't know if it's empowering, though. I mean, when have men used their sexuality so blatantly to feel 'empowered'? So I'm not sure why that would be empowering for women. I think women can do a lot of things to feel empowered - they can just be WOMEN, and feel strong. I'm still not completely sure where I stand on this issue, but yeah. I don't know, either. :-P

[identity profile] mrsronweasley.livejournal.com 2003-07-20 10:03 am (UTC)(link)
Ok, about men being empowered by sexuality - I suppose instances have always happened, but I'm saying that women don't have to do the same thing, or the same way. Argh. I'm not making sense.

I totally see what you're saying. And I agree with that, I guess I... I mean nudity and all of that just doesn't bother me for some reason. But, as to what you were saying, that for me was kind of a reason I got into reading NC-17. Like porn was too... I dunno, in your face. (Even though I think I could make the most perfect porn...) But somehow, when you read a good NC-17, it seems like so wonderful. Uh, I had a point, I just lost it... Shit.

I mean, when have men used their sexuality so blatantly to feel 'empowered'?

Well, for so much of history women have had their sexuality taken away from them, so... I like that in lots of these music videos they kind of... own it.

I'm still not completely sure where I stand on this issue

Ditto. *sigh*

Yeah, exactly. And porn is just fucking. Not interesting. Just...it needs to have more for me to hold my interest. Er... I think we understand each other, lol. If you lost your point, I did end up finding it, so no worries. LOL.

Well, for so much of history women have had their sexuality taken away from them, so... I like that in lots of these music videos they kind of... own it.

Ok, I can understand that. It could also be said that women have been TOO sexualized in the past, treated as sex objects. That could both play positively and negatively into it: on the one hand, their being so openly sexual would mean that they're just doing to themselves what men have done to them in the past, and on the other hand, they are taking control of it and, like you said, 'owning it'. Muh. I'm still confused. Heh.

I think boy porn is pretty. Because it's meant to be. The music videos are not supposed to be porn, but they practically are, and that's what bugs me. Hope I made that distinction clear...

I KNOW! My horrific Top Of The Pops watching experience recently documented in my LJ was last night beaten by an even more horrific Top Of The Pops watching expericence involving many different woman wearing very very scarily short skirts and... you guessed it.. wiggling their arses at me... sometimes with such gusto that parts of them wobbled that, umm, really would look better not wobbling.

Didn't we watch Top of The Pops together once? I remember we both complained about it... Poor you. It sucks, I know. MTV or VH-1 is so not much better. Actually, you're lucky you don't get them. Trust me.

Have I mentioned how much I adore your icon?..

(See? Mystery... ;))

[identity profile] mayatawi.livejournal.com 2003-07-19 06:46 am (UTC)(link)
Seriously. I haven't listened to the radio in about, oh, six years now. New music is crap and the only thing we can really do is wait it out. I started working as a camp counselor, and when we're in the vans all the kids want their "modern rock" stations and I feel so damn old....

[identity profile] mrsronweasley.livejournal.com 2003-07-19 06:53 am (UTC)(link)
I know, me too. But I say, it's all due to taste, not age. I mean, I'm 21. Supposedly, I'm meant to like the new music. But I just don't. It SUCKS. There are very few bands that I like nowadays and most of them have been around for about 10 years. So, go figure.

[identity profile] mayatawi.livejournal.com 2003-07-19 07:02 am (UTC)(link)

*nods vigorously*

My main problem isn't with nudity, or even the kind of music, necessarily, it's just they all do it REALLY FUCKING BADLY. If you're going to go with 'let's show lots of skin' route, then at least do it so it has a chance of being sexy. Fuck-wits.

This would be why I've not watched TotP in, like, a year a half. It's way too aggravating. :)

Have I said yet that I love you? *hugs*
