No hope remains.
They've killed POA for me. I'm sorry. But Lupin has a mustasche.
Let's not even count the fact that David Thewlis used to make me cringe normally. The fact that he now has a mustache and he's playing REMUS J. LUPIN has just killed my faith in this production.
First, the casting.
Then, the no-wizards' robes thing, which bugs me to no end (could somebody please explain to me where Ron Weasley and Harry Potter could get 'trendy muggle clothing'? I'd like to know, thanks.)
Now, this.
That's it. The only person whom I ever forgave a mustache was MacMurrough, and that's because he shaved it off.
To whom it may concern on the set of 'Prisoner of Azkaban': fuck you too.

They pretty much killed Remus Lupin for me but I'm keeping my own Remus Lupin very safe in the corner of my head *nods*

My own Remus Lupin is shaving daily (unless he can't be arsed to, but it isn't a moustache, thanksverymuch) and is looking quite fetching, even with the wrinkles and bags under his eyes.
*sigh*

And I had such high hopes for this film....

Oh... ugh.
Okay, so that is an understatement of the highest order, but still. That's just so wrong.
That does it. I don't think I'll be seeing this one. I will live happy with the book version of PoA and my version of Remus. Eh, the books were better anyway.

*sigh*
And the books are always better, no doubt about it.

Why did they do it?! *goes to rerererereread POA*
no subject
They did it because they're stupid assholes. *sigh* Have fun. ;)

You're doing it again! This was the only thing that made me laugh about this news.
I´m more angry at her blasted!Rowling than to WB.
My thoughts exactly.
Where are the robes? And Harry´s too big muggle clothes (wasn´t he wearing Dudley´s clothes?).
Not only that, but those clothes weren't even current in the early 90s. The children's wardrobes seem to have lurched suddenly from the 1950s (PS) to the 21st century (PoA).
Oh, and "Remus's" moustache? Sorry, but I'm making my judgement now. ;_; as

I've always liked the idea of Thewlis for Lupin despite the fact that his face is Quite Odd, and I'm praying to God that he can make the moustache look good (even though it looks like an evil Hitler moustache in the Shrieking Shack picture...).
On the topic of the robes...I was under the impression that they were keeping them. This site has what seems to be a picture of a bunch of robes, and also what could be Dan Radcliffe in a dress shirt (part of the uniform?).
But yes. Trendy muggle clothes? Whenever wizards-wearing-muggle-clothes were mentioned in the books, it was usually a fashion disaster. Not trendy. Arrrrrr.

About the robes: I heard Cuaron talking about it (rather, I read the interview) and he seemed to be just taking them away completely. Hmmm. We'll see, but all the evidence to far is pointing to them being offed. Dammit.
And you're absolutely right - the wirzards don't have a sense of Muggle clothing. They just don't.

It's also called tongue-in-cheek. And I just don't understand why this has to be taken further than my own livejournal. I don't understand why I can't write whatever the fuck I please.
I'm glad you commented here - and I'm happy to answer.
I have hated mustaches on men for a long time. Also, mustaches have a certain reputation, a certain something that writers add to their characters to show something. And the way I see Remus Lupin, he would not have one. I can't see his character having a mustache, and that's that. And, for fuck's sake, it's my OPINION. On my own journal.
I have more issues with this than just the casting, or just the mustache, of course. I will see the film, I can't not see it. But some of the decisions that Cuaron has made do not sit well with me. I have a very specific vision of this book, like I'm sure everybody else does.
Well, there's that. Thanks for asking.
What Happens When I Don't Edit Out Profanity
The "no robes" thing grates on me, too. At least Ron still dresses like Ron, but...
I have a uniform fetish. I like my teenagers threatening to burst out of their ties. I like boys in cuffs. I like these things. The new look is more natural, more dirrty, and I'm still looking forward to the rest of the film--Hogsmeade, especially--but I do miss the robes.
And I miss Remus, even though I haven't seen him yet. In my head, he's still Ralph Fiennes. I wasn't annoyed when I saw Thewlis--he wasn't my Remus, but no big; I figured I'd wait to see his performance. There was still hope.
However...the 'stache grates.
Re: What Happens When I Don't Edit Out Profanity
And the 'tache does grate. *is grated* Ugh.

Hermione is allowed trendy Muggle clothes, since she's a genuine Muggle-born, but the rest of them should freakin' GET BACK IN THEIR ROBES! And sweaters or whatever they had in PS.
The acting may well come out all right, especially since the kids know it now and Columbus is on the set. The appearances, though, don't look good. We can only hold out hope...
no subject
Yeah. My thoughts exactly. And I really really want them to wear the robes. Really really. Damn the man.
BTW, I didn't comment on what you wrote in that one entry of mine, so here goes:
Da, on byl zhutkiy kozel. Ya prosto ne ponimayu zachem on eto sdelal. Tak prosto, poveselitsia? Ili destvitel'no u nego vsio bylo tak ploho chto on hotel' etim zarazit' vseh? Slava bogu chto eto bylo tak davno...

The only way I'm going to see this movie is if the entire fandom unanimously agrees it to be a flawless masterpiece....so like I was saying, I won't be seeing this film.
no subject
Exactly. Thank you. He just wouldn't. Ugh.
Wow, it sounds as if you really won't be seeing this film. *g* I mean, we could still be wrong, but... well... I dare not hope anymore. I just don't.
no subject
I did not know that. I did not know that.
Why? Why? Why?
PoA is the best book. I had hopes for that movie.
And the clothes? Hermione's pink shirt? She's not a pop star or sth. But I could accept that. Eventually.
Remus has a mustasche. That's just wrong. Wrong!!!
I'm afraid to watch it...

If I knew that, I might even be happier... *sigh*
Yeah. It is just plain wrong.

Isn't anyone also worried about Sirius looks? Both Remus and Sirius are different (and God, so much better looking) in my head. And robes? Don't even get me started. The one saving grace is the meaing of the tattoo on Movie!Sirius' chest. Fucking casting agents. Fucking costume-people.
Re: Bookgirl ( thereadinggirl@hotmail.com )
Hehe. Would you like to be? I can offer a code, if you'd like. :)
And YES, I'm worried about Sirius. I never imagined him as Gary Oldman, that's for sure. My idea of Sirius is just as specific as Remus, and NONE of the actors I've seen to date have fit it. I mean, we should have realized it wouldn't go in our favor, but still. It was like watching a train-wreck. This is why I don't want a movie on 'At Swim, Two Boys'. I'd end up shooting somebody.

"But why does he have a mustache?"
There is a little Johnny Depp in my head saying that over and over...have to say, that helps!
I'm not as worried about Sirius's looks--after twelve years in Azkaban, he's not gonna be ready for a modeling career just yet. But...aggh.

Did I miss something that confirmed that's actually a mustache, or are you going by that awful picture? I wouldn't put too much stock in it - but i HAVE been halfyhalfy with TLC lately because I'm so busy my head is spinning, so did I miss something.
And this isn't really a question, but as my friend you deserve to get this SCREAMED AT YOU because you are the last person I expect to have to tell this:
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD THERE ARE ROBES IN THE DAMN MOVIE!
Phew. Okay. Feel better. I am SO FREAKING TIRED of telling people that. They are wearing regular clothes when not in class which a) has some canon backing, and certainly isn't ru led out and b)is really *no* *big* *deal*.
Plus...trendy? I don't see anything Radcliffe is wearing as trendy at ALL. It just looks typical sweatshirty fare. Watson has trendier things, but she is muggle-born. Grint looks like Radcliffe - "whatever, just pulled on a shirt and some pants..."
:)
Hope you are having le lovely day, dear...

I think you're damned right! Why else would one have an LJ?
Haven't even seen the referred to pic, but I couldn't forgive it anyway. The other thing I cannot forgive Mr. Thewlis is his acting, er, ability. I thought he was awful in Total Eclipse (http://www.imdb.com/Title?0114702) (which could have been a terribly interesting film, though Mr. di Caprio would have had to have gone as well), so I decided to give him another chance in The Island of Dr. Moreau (http://www.imdb.com/Title?0116654). Different movie, same crappy acting. Perhaps I haven't given him enough of a chance, but how many crappy movies can one end up owning?
Oh, and besides MacEmm, you can surely forgive Jim's father a moustache? Interesting how it was actually mentioned in the book. *shakes head at movie!Remus in disgust*
More power to you, dear.

The thing is, I trust Cuaron. Not only because he's a good director and a sexy bastard, but because he seems to be sure of what he's doing. I've always felt safe around this kind of people. :)
Don't worry, there's still a chance this movie will come out fine. Never fear! ;) --> my best Lockhart wink
