"A prurient, often voyeuristic, unbearably self-conscious, digressive and tedious agglomeration of pages."
This is a review of "At Swim, Two Boys" from the Jerusalem Post. I just felt like sharing. The mind boggles. Did the person read the same book as we did? And if so, have they gotten their head out of their own ass now? No? Didn't think so.
For the love of all that's sane. Just because you know a few "big words" doesn't make you an expert in literature. Now go and read Ann Coulter.

My thoughts exactly! Tedious made me laugh. I mean...I can see it?... But not really... It's like that person on Amazon saying that they read "the first 300 pages and couldn't get into it". Err... that's the entire first PART.
As for voyeuristic...I took it to mean that we - as the audience - saw things that we shouldn't have. Except that's idiotic, because there isn't a single thing in that book that I would have gotten rid of. Besides which, it was never VULGAR, for crying outloud. It was perfectly done, with taste, sensitivity and beauty. What-the-fuck-ever, man.
That review is very, very funny. Yeah, well, that's the gist of it. ;) Hehehe...

You will be happy to know that I have a whole bunch of new gay-friendly female friends here, so I am planning to suck them into the world of ASTB very soon. :D

Well . . . I may have scared them tonight when we passed the Queers & Allies office on campus and I asked if I could "go in there and make a friend" today, so I may have to wait before I start making recommendations. But oh, it will happen. ;)

And I own it. ;) Bwahahahahah...Katie, Gemma and Co. got it for me while I was in England...now I'm waiting to see if they re-release "Disturbance" here, too. (These are old - they were written ten years or so before "At Swim" came out...)

I can't say I didn't like At Swim, I can just say I liked Killbrack better. But you've probably all already read it.
