GIP.
I found this picture of the sea by accident, but it IS Dun Laoghaire, aka almost the Forty Foot. And that would be Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, featuring as Jim once again. And that would be a new icon. And, actually, if anybody wants it, they can share it with me. But it had to be done.
Oh, those boys...they break my heart.

And now...back to work.

MacEmm? Possibly. He's well handsome enough.
Why are we almost the only people not raving over the PoA trailer? I've watched it and I have to say elements of it look pretty good: they've moved away from a literal interpretation of the books and the new stuff they've brought in promises to work well. Michael Gambon looks brilliant -- just the Dumbledore I always imagined. But but... two major buts (no pun intended), and you know what they are. (sigh) I'll never, ever see it as anything other than a lost opportunity. Will you watch it?
It's much too late for me to be awake, so I'm off to bed. Hope work was ok. Night!

Really?? I may just have to watch a bit of it. Whatever it is.
Jim belongs to Doyler
He does, but (sigh) he lived on for another six years and was with MacEmm for at least part of that time. So I think of him with MacEmm too. But I do need to find a Doyler somewhere so I can picture him alongside JRM.
The trailer did look good, didn't it? It sounds as though you felt pretty much the same way I did about it -- new bits that have been introduced looked great, so why not extend that to the cast members?
I didn't like the modern clothes and so on, and the kids look more like ordinary children at an ordinary British school when they were in uniform (ties askew, shirts hanging out, generally untidy) -- that sight was so familiar, it took away a bit from the 'otherness' of the film, I thought.
But the choir looked and sounded good, I was intrigued by Draco's paper bird (what was the symbolism in that, I wonder?) and it was good to see the action move outside into the Scottish Highlands where they had a ready-made dramatic and surreal backdrop.
But Snape -- oh, dear. I have a feeling there's going to be lots of Snapeygirls wetting their knickers for a long time over that. I suppose he looked right according to the descriptions in the book but -- I'm no Snape fan, as you know. Did you see the 'Remus' in that shot? I stopped it to get a good look at him and that was definitely a moustache. (sigh again) I'm really not sure whether to go and see this film or not, but if I do, I'll be going expecting to cringe and be disappointed and possibly want to cry. I've seen approval for Oldman's Sirius but, as you said, the curly hair... the poster... dear oh dear. And I keep thinking he's supposed to have once been beautiful. The last time Gary Oldman was beautiful was when he was in his pram. He's just too ordinary looking to be extraordinary.
I have gone on a long time, haven't I? Sorry if that was a boring ramble.

You're right - Cuaron is not totally at fault for all those little things, and I am still holding out hope it'll be a great film, if I squint and ignore R. and S. I'll try to look at it from a non-R/S-y-I-love-those-two-more-than-any-other-characters perspective... but I probably won't be too successful. ;)

Gotta run, but I love you, too! A LOT!
*MWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH*!

Huh. Never thought about it that way. I wasn't too happy with some of his scenes in the previous films, but the fact that he talks like Snape I like. Also, well, it's Alan Rickman. I was, however, disappointed with his first speech in PS - it could have been SO GOOD, but wasn't.
And who am I kidding? Of course I'll be hissing and spitting. I'll try not to. I'm pretty sure it'll all come crashing down when I see Remus on the train. Damn that.

Yes, PoA might have been great, but no matter how good or excellent the film is, we'll never be able to like it. You're right about the 'Wanted' poster; it makes him look ridiculous, not scary at all.
And thank you for being nice about my ramblings!
*hugs back*

Have you seen all the icons? They're everywhere. I didn't even have to watch the trailer, really. Heh. And Lupin...oh, god, no, no, no!! Child molester!Remus. Perfect. And you're absolutely right about Sirius. It just...makes me sad. Really, really sad. One of the things I love about his character is his physical imposition, I guess - his height, his intimidating...everything. There is a reason he is the way he is. It all ties into his character, and they really missed the boat with Gary Oldman, though I'm still hoping he'll be good, but, obviously, not ideal. Never ideal. It's like...casting him as MacEmm. Oh, ew. Forget I said that.
So I think of him with MacEmm too.
I just think of that scene, when MacEmm wants to leave and Jim gets scared. Jim needed him - not romantically, but as a presence in his life, as the first adult he could ever trust for everything he was. That's how I think of their relationship.
But I do need to find a Doyler somewhere so I can picture him alongside JRM.
Seriously. We still don't have a Doyler. Something must be done.

You're not the first person I've seen say this. In fact -- get this -- at least one other person said he looked like a RL child molester (no pun intended), not one of the 'sexy' types you get in a 'chan' fic.
No wonder people say this fandom is fucked up.
Yes to everything you said about teensy GO playing the large, physically domineering Sirius. Timothy Spall is quite a big man and will tower over him. Fuck, these things are significant and are there for a reason. Do the casting people just think they know better than the author? Ah, well, maybe they'll let him stand on a box. Even Padfoot is miniaturised -- reduced from the size of a bear to a fat, cuddly lab. (sigh yet again.)
Your insights about Jim's feelings about MacEmm were so right; that's exactly what that scene said. MacEmm's feelings, of course, were far more complicated than that -- and then suddenly simple again by the end of the book, weren't they?
no subject
I'm sorry? A "sexy" child molester? What a concept. I must have missed out on that one loophole in "morals" class. But, sadly enough, he DOES look like one, and definitely not sexy. The worst thing about it is that Remus plays a large role in terms of Harry in PoA, and if not handled correctly, it really MIGHT come off as creepy. Ewwwwwwwwwwwww... "I was just showing Harry my Grindylow", ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!
MacEmm's feelings, of course, were far more complicated than that -- and then suddenly simple again by the end of the book, weren't they?
Well... He had to...get over some things. I think they became simple out of pure necessity - for Jim, as he was...you know..., and also, because I don't think he could have handled himself if permitted to...brood too much. Gah, gah, gah, there I go again. Honestly, I just don't want to think about what that man went through after the book ends, but I find myself drawn to those thoughts over and over and over...
As for Timothy Spall being bigger...BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! Oh, SO wrong! BAAAH!

I burst out laughing at this -- I'd never thought of it like that! You officially have an eviller mind than I do!
As for MacEmm: he liked to see himself as a mentor, but finally had to face up to the fact that it had long outgrown that. I think that sort-of denial was in part what bit back with the vengeance of an obsession later, wasn't it?
no subject
I do not have an eviller mind than yours. I can prove it. ;) You're still twisted, and I remain Barney... bwahahahahahahahaha! (Barney with his mind in the gutter, and speaking of child molestation... I'm KIDDING.)

It's ok, the grindylow thing genuinely made me laugh, although I'll never be able to read that scene again!
no subject
Oh, the grindylow... We're all sick, twisted people...

Wow, that picture. I feel an icon coming on... Thank you! And I'm glad you like my icon - do you want it? Just let me know. Or if you want some sort of different one - I have found that my free time is best spent ruining my eyes and playing around with photoshop. I am geek-dork, hear me roar!!
Believe it or not, I just now saw the trailer, five minutes ago, in a really small format, with no sound. As it is, the screaming poster of "Sirius" is driving me nuts. Snape in a dress...funny as hell (though nothing sexy about it...) And I, happily, didn't see Lupin, he was too tiny to see. But I hear bad things, and want to killmaimdestroy. I will see this film...I have to...but I will hiss and spit. Jo has already agreed to keep me company. *g* And it IS a lost opportunity. Just like...well...if ever they
destroymake "At Swim"... well. Well. They better do a 200% job, is all I'm saying.Hope all is better on the homefront :)

I would love your icon but I still feel there's some mileage left in my own Jim; he hasn't been around quite long enough yet. I will come back to you in future, though, if you don't mind! Thank you for offering. 'Remus' and 'Sirius' were... not good. Actually, 'Remus's' expression in the boggart scene was perfect; it was just a pity about the features that the expression appeared on. That moustache made me want to hide under the chair. At least you and Jo be able to console each other when you go.

I'm sorry you were feeling so grim... Is it getting any better? What a time of the year!..
I didn't even notice Remus in the boggart scene, actually... Will have to look again. But as for the face...well. We knew that was going to happen. *sigh*
OK, gotta run to class...damn!

We also need to revive the At Swim on mm.net.
