(no subject)

One of the worst things I can imagine is waking up and not having anything to look forward to all day. I woke up like that today, and I'm happy to say, things have improved, but for about five minutes, I thought it was going to be one of those days, where everything is grey and nothing appeals to you. It didn't help that it was grey and nasty outside, of course.

Speaking of waking up, we overslept today. That, by all accounts, is a sheer miracle, because we have three alarms. Not one. Not two. But three. And neither one went off. I have no recollection of any one of them going off. I have no recollection of turning any one of them off. Clearly, somebody wanted us to oversleep, and oversleep we did. But even thought we both missed our first classes, it felt good to actually, you know...get enough sleep.

Next week, I've got three tests - one on Wednesday, one on Thursday, and one on Friday. Now I ask you - is that fair? Is it? Luckily, I finally get to on break after that, and it'll be a week of doing nothing but writing, reading, sleeping and watching videos. AND seeing Jo and getting drunk. Speaking of seeing Jo and being in Boston, [livejournal.com profile] aneli8 - how free are you next weekend? Not this one, but the one after that. Eh, eh?

Oh, and one more thing:

So, I have basically become a very boring person, at least fandom-wise. See? I have nothing to say. Everything I've had to say on the fandom, or some of its aspects, like Remus, Sirius, the trio, theirloveissocanon, etc, I have already said, a million times over. At this point, I'd just be repeating myself for the millionth time. This is why I don't get engaged in any "debates" anymore - it's all been said, it's all been done, and I don't want to sound like a broken record. However, there have been a few...interesting...debates going on lately, and I'd just like to add to the volumes and volumes of opinions, and state that...

Sirius Black is not a psycho- nor a sociopath. Any clinical and formal definition of those two words does not fit his personality, and while he is not the most responsible nor, perhaps, even loveable character in the Harry Potter series, he is not, under any circumstances, certifiably insane. He is just really fucking unlucky.

Ok, let's add one more thing:

Remus Lupin isn't either. I have no idea where people are getting ideas that he is, or that he is unrespectable or irresponsible. Nobody is perfect, and we all know neither one of these characters is, BUT. He is also one of the more responsible adults in the series. I am of the somewhat unpopular opinion that Dumbledore is more irresponsible than he is, but that's neither here nor there at this point. Just wanted to say...Remus is ok. One of the very good guys.

I'd also like to encourage people to re-read PoA and OotP sometime. Really enlightening reads on these counts.

Ok, I had to get this off my chest, it had been building for a really long fucking time.

If I happen to disagree with you, it doesn't mean that I don't like/love you. I do. We just happen to share very different views.

Ok, I'm done now. Good day!

That is definitely not fair. I hope you kick their arses. *hugs you tight*

For the Sirius thing, I think maybe part of it is a confusion about just how fucked up 'sociopath' is. For me, that connotates a whole lot more unhinged than I think Sirius is, but some people at least seem to be using it more to emphasise how fucked up they think Sirius is, rather than as an actual descriptor. If that makes sense. The Remus people make no sense at all to me, though. heh.

I love that you also have three alarm clocks. Heh. Do you do the same thing as me, setting one for waking up, one for going to bed and one for eating?

Also, I'm on a mission to make sure you have as many reasons to get up in the morning as possible.

THANK YOU!

God, I was starting to wonder if I'd missed a bit in OotP about Sirius having been declared clinically insane. And don't even let me get started on what people have been saying about Remus.

Good luck on your tests. At least they're not all on the same day (said Pollyanna, and you can slap me now).

Why would anyone think Remus is a sociopath/psycho, or even irresponsible? Where is there any canon evidence for these ideas?

People confuse me sometimes.

I wonder if all the speculation isn't born of over-analysing a text that just doesn't stand up to such obsessive, microscopic scrutiny. HP is all about broad brush-strokes, with tiny enlivening detail. The examination of the characters that's now going on reminds me a bit of a child pulling apart a flower to see how it works. I suspect most of the 'psychoanalysts' don't analyse any of the people in their own lives as closely as they do these characters. I wonder what results they'd come up with if they did.

I definitely agree with the Sirius bit, but as for Remus...

He is kind, he is a people person, he is a mentor figure, and he is undoubtedly trustworthy.

But I don't believe for a second he is the paragon of responsibility or rationality. I don't believe Dumbledore is irresponsible, but I definitely think he has agendas and makes small but crucial/deadly mistakes.

Remus, on the other hand, has done a lot of purposefully irresponsible things in his life. He's gotten a lot more mature, but he's clearly expressed that he can be just as irrational about a situation as Sirius (who is very irrational and emotion-driven), and just as irresponsible as Harry and Ron.

Case in point, responsible, rational people do not make magical maps for the soul purpose of violating a myriad of rules-- especially if this, in a way, violates the trust of someone who has done beneficial things for them. Dumbledore allowed Remus to attend Hogwarts, and in return Remus and his friends misbehaved.
