Um, ok...what the fuck?!

Is this a joke, or are they actually serious? Of all the places in the world you'd expect this to happen in, Ireland was so not on my top 100.

I fear the future, I really do.

*sigh* Smoke free everywhere... I want to move to Ireland.

MUHUHUHAHA!

*disapears into shadows*

You have been randomly loved. Mwah.

heh... smoking bans are swell... if you're not a smoker or the owner of an establishment not frequented by smokers.

the smoking ban in my *state* is screwing over small businesses like bars and restaurants with separate smoking rooms (not areas, like entirely different sections of the building) really hardcore.

=\

Going to a pub and not having to wash all your clothes afterwards sounds good to me. :)

I'll have to agree with you on this. That would be nice.

Plus I wont be tempted to smoke so...

Sars from Tomato Nation, who used to live in Manhattan, wrote a really fucking swell essay on that city's smoking ban here (http://www.tomatonation.com/smokeban.shtml), where she posits that some bar owners could have nonsmoking establishments, and some could have smoking establishments, but it should be up to the individual bar owners and not to the goddamn city. I tend to fucking agree.

...And I heard about this before, but I rrrreeeeaaallly didn't want to be the one to tell you.

PS--Tell Jo abortion's illegal in Ireland, too. Or at least it was as of my last awareness. Maybe I'm behind the times.

abortion is *very* illegal in Ireland... hell, they only legalized Divorce a few years ago! no abortion and no cigarettes... and I still love the place. that should tell you how magical it really is!

but, this has made me sad. it just increases the bad!drinking, the drinking-alone-in-your-dark-apartment-until-you-pass-out-in-a-puddle-of-your-own-vomit-and-urine sort of drinking.... at least that is what happens to me when I can't smoke in pubs. I just have to drink at home, and that is never really pretty.

Love and visuals,
Jo

I hardly ever bother drinking at home--occasional rum and coke or gin and juice or beer and...beer. This is because my liquor cabinet is grossly understocked. Because of said understocking, I tend to order weird fruity concoctions full of everything I can't possibly keep in the house (Long Island Iced Teas and White Russians and Midori Sours and...and...) I want...I want to know if we have any damn Southern Comfort around here. Hmmmm.

ME!

I'll second the WTF. C'mon. No smoking in an office with poor ventilation? Okay. Makes sense. But at bars? ARGH. Not Ireland. Very, very odd.

**toodles off to read "At Swim, Two Boys" where she's pretty sure she's read about folks smoking, and knows she's seen a rogue whiskey bottle**

They've been putting off passing this since January. And guess what you have? Large groups of people smoking outside the pubs, overflowing the pavements, making the whole town unbreathable. I did try to get them to pass the law in mid-winter...
