I haven't seen the trailer yet (I can't, baah), but from what I hear, Steve Kloves did the unthinkable evil, and gave Ron's best line to Hermione. Yet again. Besides being angry and upset at this, I'm also completely dumbfounded: WHY?! Is he trying to improve JKR's view of the characters? Is he trying to say "no, really, Ron IS a stupid wimp!" or what the fuck? Is he trying to get beaten up? Because, you know, you don't mess with shit like that. There's some serious Ron-hate going on there, and I don't understand it. I mean...presumably, he's read the books. Presumably, from cover to cover. Did he just not get it? Did he automatically attribute everything to Hermione, in which case he's just a creepy, creepy old man who is obsessed with a young girl far more than he should be? Is he still trying to dumb down the films for 3 year olds?
WHY IS HERMIONE BEING MADE INTO THE PERFECT PERSON?! She's not! She's neurotic and insane at times, and we LIKE her that way! She's a brave girl, absolutely. But, my God, she's not the only one! Sheesh.
As a Mrs. Ron Weasley, I am strongly offended by this. All you Ron-Ho's, unite! Unite and...ummm... I don't know. And bitch! Not that that helps any. But in any case. I'm rather upset. I think I will follow somebody else's advice and yell out "RON SAID THAT!!" during the film. I mean, somebody's gotta do the dirty work around there, right?
Feel free to flame, by the way - because I've noticed that any reaction besides "OMG, this film is a piece of brilliance!" gets flamed - and to that I say: THRRRRRRRRBBBBBPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPT!
Ah, nice and slobbery...
(BTW,
lea_ndra - I got around to watchng the deleted scenes on the Boondocks DVD. Ummm. You know...they should be illegal. So much naked hot should really really be illegal. AND the fact that that scene was cut. That's just a crime. But anyway...)

But Movie!Hermione is teh hawt.
Therefore, I am conflicted!
But integrity of books is good.
But integrity of books has never been a filmmaker's priority. When you think about it, HP is one of the only (and I mean only) instances where most people have read the book before they've seen the film upon which 'tis based.
Don't know where I was going with that... I think I was merely Libraphising.
Also, in case you're wondering why I speak in small sentences tonight and am incoherent, it is because I am teh stoned.

I know. Which is why I'm scared as hell of the 'At Swim' film, should it ever actually be made. But anyway...
I'm not very conflicted when it comes to this film. I love PoA so much, I can't imagine going in to see this and thinking that it's what it should be. I'm very cynical when it comes to things like this. We'll see. I'm just upset that a great character is getting totally demolished with no reason for it. Argh.
Still stoned?

And now that I've recovered, I see that I have no real opinion on the wimpification of Ron. Sucks, but meh.

Works for me! Down with the Ron-haters! V_V (<--*makes angry eyes*) It's people like him who came up with that "I'm going to beat you like a redheaded stepchild" saying I hear all the time. Yeah, well, the redheads are retaliating. *shakes Kloves and makes more angry eyes* V_v
THRRRRRRRRBBBBBPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPT!
I second that and a slice of cake! (um, because cake makes everything better. I think.)
It's so sad that they feel the need to do that. One, I don't get it because like you said, Ron's an intelligent guy and it doesn't make sense that they kept chracterizing him like a backwards three year old. And two, of all the actors, Rupert's the one I like the most. Doesn't he deserve some good lines? ;_;

RAH! RAH! RAH!
Yeah, well, the redheads are retaliating.
And good on them! I love redheads. Redheads are hot, man!
Cake does make everything better, maybe I should sneak some into the theater... hmmm... And yes, basically yes to everything you said. Although I've always had a problem with Rupert Grint... his facial expressions are just a bit too limited for my tastes... :-P

Mmmmm, Boondock Saints... The deleted scenes weren't on my DVD, which got me pretty irate at the time because

My deleted scenes were on the DVD...are you sure yours doesn't have them in the 'special features' thing?.. That's such a shame! Gah! I mean, Sean Patrick Flanery in nothing but boots, socks and an ice pack over a strategic area...what more could you ask for in life? Oh, I know. Norman's ass. And we get that, too.
Hmmm... where did you get your DVD?

oh, who am i kidding. i agree. i love hermione to death, as her bossy, neurotic self. she doesn't have all the great lines; she doesn't always know what to say. that's part of why I love her, because that girl is NOT perfect, but she has guts and she rocks. so does ron, because he is awkward and sometimes shy and stumbling and you just want to press him to your bosom because he needs to be my boyfriend and CALL ME RON. I DON'T MIND IF YOU YELL ON THE PHONE. so it infuriates me that they make him into a pathetic, clueless little wimp (and what is up with that "acting" expression that rupert grint does for wimpy!ron where he scrunches up his face and pushes out his lower lip? rupert, honey, i really adore you, but you need to stop doing that). for crying out loud, yes, he gets scared, because fuck it, he was eaten by a giant plant and had his fucking leg broken by what he thought was a grim, but he is not as weak and pathetic as they make him seem. hell, if i were hermione, i would look to harry for some clumsy and misguided subtext, too. stop denouncing the ron. the ron rules. it just pains me to see that presumptous jerk (sorry steve kloves, but get a clue and READ THE BOOK) taking books i cherish like few others and turn them around, change them, modify them to fit his view, his opinion. that's what makes the book character so special: they have a healthy balance of being smart and awkward, of being scared and courageous. the movies completely screw up this balance in favor of a hermione that's rapidly turning into someone we don't know (dress emma watson in her own clothes for 'authenticity'? what fucking authenticity? this is not 'the emma watson biography'; this is rowling's universe. these kids are in a british boarding school for wizards, so where the fuck do emma's clothes fit in with authenticity?), and leaving poor ron by the side of the tracks. the real ron would kick steve kloves' ass.

They hunt you and... well, they do something... because you don't have a right to think that. You're not cool like them :)
I'm not watching that either. Boo! Those movies SUCK!

*hugs Ron* And Hermione's faaaaar from perfect. Geez.

But what line is this? Because, you know, in my eyes all Ron's lines are his best lines. YayRon!
I shall happily abstain from moviewatchingdom over here in my corner. Yaybooks!
:D

Amen to that. I'm very glad you said it :)
I love you.

Well, I was hoping it'd BE a piece of brilliance, before the moustache. But I was starting to get over that.
Maybe there was still time for a little brilliance...?
But then came the Evil Line-Switch of Doom and ruined everything. WAH.
no subject
But this? I feel like a serious line has been crossed and I can't overlook it.
I'll go see it, I'm sort of comitted to see it at least once, but depending on what else they mess with -- it may be my one and only viewing.
That was like the ONE thing Kloves just couldn't mess up. And he did.

It's like she's not even AWARE of the traits she gave to Ron within that very scene if she approved the switch. :( :( :(
no subject
I assume that this is not a JKR approved switch. Now she might have some say in the final version of the script before filming (I think most scripts are changed somewhat during filming). I highly doubt that she has that much say. For the first, there are probably few film makers that would sign up to do a film adaption where the author of the original material really controlled things. Secondly, many decision about scenes, lines etc. are done on the spot, in the shooting and sometimes even afterwards in the editing etc. Adding to that, I remember that JKR didn't know much about the outcome of the first film until she saw it at a private screening just days before the premier. So in my opinion that it's a real possibility that she didn't approve the line change.
If you haven't deducted earlier, no, I don't approve of that line being attributed to Hermione.
I'm clinging to the vague hope that Ron will still throw himself at Sirius and thus keep some of his canonical bravery. That this was done to shorten the scene like with the tests to get to the philosopher's stone in PS/SS the film. Yeah, it's very vague.

And if she did approve it ... then, yes, I am even more disappointed.
*sighs*

She's neurotic and insane at times, and we LIKE her that way!
Well, I'd go along with the first part of this statement, anyway. However, the combination of Hermione and Emma Watson is just a bit hard to take at times. When the two then combine to mutate into a mutant flat-haired, skinny, narky and all-knowing Mary Sue...
THRRRRRRRRBBBBBPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPT!
Hear, hear.

(Anonymous) 2004-05-03 06:50 am (UTC)(link)And why give the line to Hermione, I think it has something to do with Emma Watson being such a diabolical actress, maybe Daddy pays for her to be in the movie and get the good lines.
And have a nagging doubt that this rewriting might lead to.... Snape being cut from this scene.......
Your views?

Count me in! I'll be yelling "RON SAID THAT" in the movies as well :)

You, on the other hand, are amazing and wonderful and I love you to bits.

I will only accept this if he is unconcious when Hermione says that!
