On Being Here.
Well, guess where I am? In a place where the keyboards are weird and making typoes is all in a day's work for us foreigners.
Yes. Katie, I'm in your timezone.
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
Right now I am in a weird mood, not sure why...just kinda blah. But yesterday was fun! I attribute the "blahness" to the fact that classes haven't started, and we're all wondering around aimelessly. But I have friends! Yes - one of them is the girl from my school (they couldn't have picked a cooler person from that school, I am very grateful), and someone who was, funnily enough, on my flight. We met at customs. :) She's very cool, and within the few hours that it took us to get from the airport to our respective dorms, we talked about everything from Harry Potter to good music to how Remus and Sirius should be together. Well, I admit - I introduced that last possibility, but dude, she went with it! She's very cool. And then there a few random people. Like, when someone met us at the train station to take us and all of our crap to campus, there was a boy there named "Ron" who has blue eyes, light/almost red hair and is very sweet. He's from Amsterdam and has come here to improve his English skills, which are better than mine. Huh. He's a Lit. major. Hopefully, I'll see him at some point so we can talk books.
Oh! The girl that I met on my... HA! Ron just sat down at the computer next to me. That's funny.
Anywho, as I was saying, she's a bit book fanatic, much like myself, and it's great. We went into the university bookshop and drooled over Wilde and such - and hey, they had "At Swim, Two Boys", which made me very very happy, indeed. I just might buy it. It's paperback. It's cheaper. It's still amazing.
One of the very first things I noticed here. Just an observation.
The men. Oh, my. Oh, yes.
Unfortunately, it's one of those "you are gorgeous but - hence - you're not looking at me, so I'll just go away now" things. *sigh*
I also feel incredibly stupid opening my mouth at all, because then my big stupid American accent spills out. Makes me feel silly, like I'm wearing white socks, white sneakers, a baseball cap and am eating a hog dog and washing it down with a Heineken. In the middle of a castle.
My room is wonderful, though. It's a single (yeah, baby!) and has a sink in it - incredibly convenient. It's also nice and clean and mine.
More on my journey later, when I'm a little more 'together'.
Love to all,
me from Britain

Wheee! You're IN THE UK! Yaaaay! And hey, don't worry about the accent too much, we're quite forgiving about things like that. :)
And of course you have friends. You'll have more, too. You ROX, you see, and we like ROXin people. :)
Hehehe, you're even converting people to R/S!
This is too cool! Eeeeeee! *love*

i'm glad to hear that the accent isn't a big deal - i just feel like it is...you know?
*tacklehugs back*
mwah!

And worrying about the accent is definitely understandable - I always feel really self-concious about my northernness whenever I go down south. But really, it's not likely to be an issue for anyone else. *huggles*

Anyway. Good to hear you're having a good time, and America is all the worse for losing you, even if it's not for good.
Now more than ever, though, it seems like all the cool people are in the UK. Tisn't fair.

oh, i'm sure america can handle being deprived of the crazy russian chick...at least for a while. ;)

Eat some mint jelly for me!
And most importantly, have fun, and don't worry about your accent. If anyone asks you what it is, just tell them it's Canadian.
no subject
ok, i will have to find some of those. along with my wizarding dogs, of course - still on the lookout...
so, canadian sounds cooler? really? huh. well, shall have to learn how to say 'aboot' properly. as we all know, it isn't really 'aboot', but a very very contained 'o' that is barely audible.
or something.
*snuggles*
