Bush-whacked.

Apparently, taking a shower and cleaning up your room really does a number on cranky moods. I am almost dressed and ready to go out and face the world (yes, it's 4:30, shut up.)

I just have one question, which has been brewing for a while, and I've finally been able to sort of articulate while I was in the shower.

Why is it that in a country where it's become increasingly difficult to find any sort of decent job unless one has at least one college degree, people breathe easier when their leader has answered a question in a complete sentence without making any stupid mistakes? How is this possible? Why is it that the standards that apply to every other citizen and permanent resident do not apply in any form to the man in the oval office? Since when has it become right to be proud of a leader for not making an ass of himself in front of the whole world for a day? How is it that in a country that supposedly values education, a leader is elected who wouldn't know how to find the root of 4, if asked without prep? Who has been proven to lie, who works out of the pockets of major oil corporations, who has come out and told about 10% of his constituents that they are not guaranteed the same rights by the constitution as the rest of the country? How is this possible? And how is it possible that even after all this, he is STILL being supported by his country, and will more than likely win the upcoming elections?

What the hell has happened in the world that has allowed this to happen, to continue, to survive?

I had to do this. It's been building up for quite a while, and the article that [livejournal.com profile] rochefort linked to earlier today just put me over the edge. God. We have a dipshit in the office. Why can't people just finally fucking face it?

*shakes head*

I don't know. I'm as perplexed as you are. God, please don't say he's going to win the election. Just thinking about it makes me cringe. Kerry has to beat him, for the sake of everyone. We have to keep the hope alive. :)

[identity profile] mrsronweasley.livejournal.com 2004-06-04 02:08 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, the sad part is - I'm going to vote for Kerry, but he doesn't inspire much confidence, either! It's just that he's not as dumb as Bush, and not such a prick, and Bush is so horrible, in so many ways... *sigh* I try to hope for the best, but expect the worst. Sorry I made you cringe. :)

BY THE WAY! I totally didn't congratulate you on being DONE WITH COLLEGE!! CONGRATULATIONS! I am so proud of you! Yay! :D

Because that involves being able to think for one's self, and sometimes I'm convinced that this country thinks that's something akin to doing the nasty with a relative? It's why money spent on campaigning is such a huge issue, because, you know, everyone will vote for the guy with the most commercials. -_-;;

But yes, worddity word on the questions. I sure as hell ain't voting for the prick.

God, are you ever right! For some reason, it's GOOD that our president is just one of the people. Except, you know, no average person has to make the sort of decisions he has to, and no average person is responsible for the lives of so many, all over the world. God, this is all so idiotic. ARRRRGH!!!

*sigh*

As I said in response to a couple of comments on my lj, the whole Bush thing just baffles me. Few people, except the very rich, seem to benefit from his being in office. And yet...

I think if I lived in the States I'd be feeling very, very frustrated.

[identity profile] mrsronweasley.livejournal.com 2004-06-04 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
It baffles me, too. It's unbelievable. People actually take this joker seriously. Although, one thing I can say in the people's defense is that we have a serious issue with censorship here, so all the news that you get to hear in Europe? We only get the filtered, watered-down, 'patriotic' versions. Still, if people really wanted to, they'd find shit out. And yet... Indeed.

*hugs*

Americans (not all, just most -- unfortunately) are lazy, especially intellectually. They're also incredibly insecure and when someone tells them they're #1 in the world they lap it up and willfully ignore the fact that it's utterly untrue.

Bitter much? I'm so moving to Canada. Particularly if Bush is elected in November, particularly if he reinstates the draft. O_o

[identity profile] mrsronweasley.livejournal.com 2004-06-04 02:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm with you. I'm going to (hopefully) go to grad school in Canada, unless I somehow miraculously get into Harvard (ha! ha! Hahaha!) I can't stand what this man has done to this country. It's just disgusting. And you're right - laziness is a large part of this. They just refuse to think, and it causes so many fucking problems. Just look at our president. Let's talk about 'lazy intellectually'...

[identity profile] gehayi.livejournal.com 2004-06-04 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Ditto for me, and I don't even like the cold. But I'd rather leave America than stay here under Bush's rule, or the rule of the man he picks to succeed him.

[identity profile] mrsronweasley.livejournal.com 2004-06-04 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
God, I know. I mean, I'm used to cold weather, and Canada still scares me. But it's better than...that. You know. *eyes W.*

[identity profile] soupytwist.livejournal.com 2004-06-04 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
It boggles the mind, really. I mean... how do people see Bush and think of him as a leader? How? Even if you agree with his outlook (which I think you can guess I don't), how is he the "leader of the free world"? Gah. GAH. Relatively few people actually make me want to hit things and scream and rage, but he's right up there. GAH.

(Then again, apparently people still see him as a good ol' boy, which makes no sense either, given that he's a millionaire many times over and, y'know, HIS DAD WAS THE PRESIDENT. Honestly.)

If he wins in November, then I've got a free floor any time.

GOD, I would love to take you up on that. *sigh*

Relatively few people actually make me want to hit things and scream and rage, but he's right up there.

You got it. Same here. *siiiiiiiigh*

LOVE YOU!!!!!!

first of all, that was a great editorial. thanks for the link. that said, i hope bush falls on his face, gives shitty speeches and the european leaders kick his scrawny ass. ;-)

ditto on all the frustration and anger. i'm perplexed as the rest of you. my parents, god love 'em, are big bush supporters and donators to the republican party. since we stand on such opposite sides of the political spectrum, and since everyone in my family can be rather vocal with their opinions (now you know where my niece gets it from, liz!), we don't talk a lot of politics around the dinner table. tempers, ya know.

but from what i think and what i know about them, they still support bush because he purports to be a christian (now, now, no snorting). that means a GREAT deal to them--prayer in school, the ten commandments in public places...oh yeah, they think that's just great. i think they're willing to overlook some of his other transgressions because of that.

i didn't say it made sense now, did i? but IMO, that's not too far off the mark for many bush supporters. that, and for some unknown reason, they think he has the "right" to finish what he started in iraq (man, i wish i had whatever they're smoking).

i was watching c-span the other night and they were airing clinton's speech to the book expo. man, i miss him.

not because i'm a big clinton person because i'm not, really (i'm more liberal than that). but my god, here was this guy, giving a terrific speech, most of it without notes, using great examples with historical accuracy, who was articulate and SMART, with just the right amount of humor and wit....it was terrific. i miss having a president like that--even if i don't agree with him, at least he has a BRAIN, a POINT and can defend it and not come off sounding like a fuckin' moron.

watch c-span late at night (i think it's on the weekends) and see the weekly parliament update from london. jesus, tony blair has to face the lions every single week and defend/argue everything he does. can you imagine if bush had to do that?!

pffft. congress would kick his scrawny ass.

and my apologies for rambling. i LOVE politics and i tend to go on too long. ;-) as much as i hate it, i still love it.

I'm sympathetic! Here, we have the same problem, our own petty, ignorant, dangerous prime minister, mr. Berlusconi, who fancies himself as Bush buddy but who's just he's lap dog... *shakes head*
