On Forum Ghosts.
Well, it has happened. The first rebellions against us have begun to crop up. People have begun to complain that their posts or threads have been edited or deleted. Here is my answer.
Get the FUX over it.
What people don't understand - and what they should really think about before attacking us for doing our job - is that the Quill doesn't come free for everybody. That the space costs money that's coming right out of the Administrations' (and donaters') pockets. That is partially the reason why we have to edit and delete so many frivolous posts - because they take up precious space. However, that's not the entire reason.
Here's the thing - there are plenty of un-moderated forums out there. That is fine. The point of the Quill is that it was started as a literary/writing/in-depth discussion board. It was not meant for chat - that was not the original purpose. And this has been stated over and over and over. We are not out to get people. We are out to continue to keep the Quill as it had been before its popularity exploded. There are over a 1000 registered members. Fuck me, that's a lot of people. And that is a LOT of posts. I don't think people realize that the mods have to read all of those posts. They then have to make decisions about each and every one.
How hard is it not to swear when you're asked not to? How hard is it to PM or IM someone with a silly question that doesn't pertain to the discussion at hand? I don't understand. If you can't follow the rules that have been so plainly laid out for you, then it's your fault, and the mods will continue to do their job.
This is why I really appreciate all the people who have started the "Hug Your Local Forum Ghost" campaign in their LJ's. Seriously, it's just nice to have that kind of support. I don't like having to tell people that their evening plans with each other are not supposed to be in a Lily/James thread, or something, but I have to do it. Unfortunately, I get crap for it. Well, goes with the job.
I am sending an e-hug to each and every Forum Ghost on the Quill, whether they see this or not. Because they are doing a great job, and deserve a lot of cookies.
You know who else does? The Administration. I can't believe they had to do this all by themselves before. That is just...wow. Kudos to them, as well.
