On Forum Ghosts.

Well, it has happened. The first rebellions against us have begun to crop up. People have begun to complain that their posts or threads have been edited or deleted. Here is my answer.

Get the FUX over it.

What people don't understand - and what they should really think about before attacking us for doing our job - is that the Quill doesn't come free for everybody. That the space costs money that's coming right out of the Administrations' (and donaters') pockets. That is partially the reason why we have to edit and delete so many frivolous posts - because they take up precious space. However, that's not the entire reason.

Here's the thing - there are plenty of un-moderated forums out there. That is fine. The point of the Quill is that it was started as a literary/writing/in-depth discussion board. It was not meant for chat - that was not the original purpose. And this has been stated over and over and over. We are not out to get people. We are out to continue to keep the Quill as it had been before its popularity exploded. There are over a 1000 registered members. Fuck me, that's a lot of people. And that is a LOT of posts. I don't think people realize that the mods have to read all of those posts. They then have to make decisions about each and every one.

How hard is it not to swear when you're asked not to? How hard is it to PM or IM someone with a silly question that doesn't pertain to the discussion at hand? I don't understand. If you can't follow the rules that have been so plainly laid out for you, then it's your fault, and the mods will continue to do their job.

This is why I really appreciate all the people who have started the "Hug Your Local Forum Ghost" campaign in their LJ's. Seriously, it's just nice to have that kind of support. I don't like having to tell people that their evening plans with each other are not supposed to be in a Lily/James thread, or something, but I have to do it. Unfortunately, I get crap for it. Well, goes with the job.

I am sending an e-hug to each and every Forum Ghost on the Quill, whether they see this or not. Because they are doing a great job, and deserve a lot of cookies.

You know who else does? The Administration. I can't believe they had to do this all by themselves before. That is just...wow. Kudos to them, as well.

I know! The outpouring of support is amazing, even if the reason its needed SUX.

And the admin ... wow. They're amazing.

Seems several ForuM Ghosts are ranting about this ... me, you, Michelle said "have you hugged a forum ghost today?", and so on ....

Yours in fanfiction,

JK

Ah, I love the community. Everyone is so wonderful. :)

The admin - yes, they are indeed amazing. More than I ever realized. :)

::huggles Liz::

You guys are doing a great job. You ROX. Siriusly, you have so much to do, both in RL and enjoying posting, that the amount of effort you put into ghosting is amazing. You ROX my SOX.

There's a "Hug Your Forum Ghost" campaign? Where do I sign up?

Yes, sometimes it can seem that the Forum Ghosts are being a bit heavy-handed, but you know what? Tough. If more people actually thought before they posted, ya'll wouldn't have to step in so much.

Besides, it only *seems* that way because the Quill went without such moderation for so long. There were too few Mods and too many posters, and now that that's been remedied, it's hard for some to change the way they think and post.

You Ghosts have a tough job, and I'm impressed with how well you've been handling it. Keep it up.

Thank you! :)

You've just officially signed up. ;)

WORD. Big fat WORD. Get the FUX over it, yes... gaah.

I haven't done any modding that could be considered as offending (yet?), and I've got three nice PMs from different people thanking me. :) That's nice.

I can't believe the Admins. They're amazing.

Oh, man, you CRAX me up. WORD!!

;)

As I just wrote on JK's journal, I am TREMENDOUSLY grateful for the Forum Ghosts. Seriously, as if poor Zsenya and the others weren't busy enough already, without having to wade through senseless, immature posts. I'm sure this has taken a huge burden off of their shoulders, and the quality of Quill discussion is better off for it. So, THANK YOU!!!

Katinka :)

Katinka!

Wow, it's certainly a surprise to see you here - but a great one! :) Thank you for your kind words - I'm glad that most people understand and appreciate us.

I'm hearing Ride of the Valkyries in my head. I always knew there was a domineering streak in you somewhere, just waiting for the chance to come out.

Seriously, you know I think this is long overdue. Some of the posts I've seen at SQ have made steam come out of my ears, as you also know. And they're not even those ones that you've had a chance to deal with yet.

Hope CoS was fun.

Ooops. My secret is out. Heh. *cracks whip*

Yes, I know exactly what you're talking about. Believe me, WILL NOT happen on my watch. One offence - we let it go. Two - no fucking way. Three strikes - you're out. Ahem.

People never learn, but hopefully, they will keep their fingers to themselves when it comes to certain subjects...

Thank you

That's all I wanted to say. Thank you Liz. Thank you for being a forum ghost. I can't tell you how much better my life has been since you all showed up...

:) Zsenya
