mrsronweasley: (yes?..)

On...::cackles::

Well, here I am. I am pierced. I have extraneous metal in the general area of my belly button. I am a bit sore. Otherwise, I am extremely excited. I friggin' love it.

For some reason, the girls both thought that I wouldn't go through with it and wimp out, so, since Theresa was getting a piercing as well, they made me go first. Which I did. And it was fine. (Although Theresa did hold my hand - as I did hers, when she was getting her labret.) I was actually really impressed with the place - the guy was efficient, everything was clean, and went off without a hitch. He really was a professional - I am so coming back to that place to get my eyebrow done in January.

Excuse me for a second...

Wheeeeeeeee!

Yes, I'm a dorx, so sue me.

Another great thing that happened yesterday that I didn't write about because I couldn't be arsed to -

We finally - FINALLY! - got to see Stonehenge. And WOW. I cannot fully express how absolutely amazing it was. My powers as a writer, such as they are, cannot really do the place justice - just like pictures, though I took many. I don't think I have ever been in awe of something as fully as this. It was just...WOW.

Ok, here's my attempt at saying why: because it is ancient. Because it is incredible in the way it was constructed. Because it was on the top of my list of Things To Do Before I Die, and it did not disappoint. It was just beautiful. Marie told us all about the different stones, and what they were used for, and what the common misconceptions are... And I kept taking pictures - almost an entire roll full of them. The bad thing was that they have roped it off, so you can't actually get near the stones, which really is a shame. I would have loved to actually walk inside it, and take pictures. But, really, I am just in complete awe.

We also walked around Salisbury, which is the cutest little town. It's a bit touristy, but, hell, it can be touristy, it's got that right - it's real (if that makes any sense). We went inside the cathedral, and my history-lover-buff self was wibbling (just like at Stonehenge - cannot tell you how close I came to being a history major, so this was big). I saw graves (coffins, really) from the 1300's. Lady Jane Grey's sister's coffin - and her husband's. Different archbishops. And the cathedral itself - simply beautiful. There was a courtyard there straight out of...well, all those history novels. When Marie and I saw it, we practically squealed - and Marie never squeals. But she's just as crazy about church architecture as I am - so, we were very happy, indeed.

There were a lot of things that went wrong yesterday, but it was just one of those cases where the good definitely outshone the bad. Thank God. I mean, yes, Marie's film - after she had taken 20 pictures of Stonehenge - ripped (and she takes professional pictures, too). Yes, I forgot my license and therefore couldn't get the Young Person's Railcard, like I was planning on. Yes, Theresa was late because of a meeting and we ended up spending only about 40 minutes at the actual site, but, really, it didn't matter. It was still wonderful.

Other than that, not much to write about. But, then again, it's not every day that I get to see Stonehenge, and get pierced... So, I guess that's enough excitement for now. Saving it all for Italy in a couple of weeks.

Theresa and I want to come back to Stonehenge on Summer Solstice, when they let the ropes down. It'll be insanely crawling with thousands of people, but I think it's worth it. Marie's not going to join us for that very reason, but I think I'll take my chances. I have to come back.

And now I am off to try and actually maybe possibly somehow write something. Gah.

After much deliberation and an almost-posting of a huge digression on how great history is and how cool it is to live in a country that measures its history in centuries, I decided I'd stick to "Yay! And bring on the pictures!"

Oh, wow....

I am *so* glad you finally got to see Stonehenge. It's simply the most amazing thing... I've seen it twice, and it still wasn't enough.

Knowing the background, history, etc. makes it that much more special... I'm glad you got that experience.

Am dying to see your pictures!

Oh, and I've been told that if you seem convincingly blind, they'll take you up to feel the stones. Don't have the chutzpah to actually try it, though. ;-b
