Liz's head: *explodes*

OK! YOU PEOPLE ARE INSANE! THANK YOU! JESUS CHRIST! WHO PASSED THE CRACK AROUND?!

Wanted to let you know these WILL be done tonight, but I need some time. First, I have to clean up the mess on the floor that is my BRAINS.

They're done. Let me know if I forget anybody's CRACK, all right?

Meanwhile, I come bearing links:

Moscow urged to end Pride ban.

Yeah, good luck, kiddies. But still. Look, Russia and gayness all in one article! Amazing, really. On the heels of that...

One boy's story.

This I found fascinating, because I honestly am so completely out of touch with what Russia is like now, I had no idea what life would be like for gay people there. Because it was never talked about until after we left, 13 years ago. The 'debate' was just starting, in fact (and yes, I remember being ten and totally freaked out by a picture of two naked sweaty meaty men that was shown on the news, and what freaked me out was not the fact that they were naked together, but the fact that they were so scary, sweaty, and meaty.)

And, finally - can you tell I clicked on links today?

Social taboos pressure lesbian love.

I highly recommend scrolling down after the article to read the comments. Prepare a bucket. Some may make you want to throw up.

Ok. Eating now. Ironically.

Look, leggy Callum. Mmm. Legs.

You know, it's very telling that we have one, ONE celebrity who's out of the closet.

...we DO? We have one? We really have an out-of-the-closet celebrity?

Is it Kirkorov? *g*

Ahahano. Although it would be funny. "Alla turned me gay!" Then she'll do the same thing to Galkin as soon as she gets bored of him.

It's Boris Moiseev: http://www.bmoiseev.ru/ I actually hate his music -- he has a really affected style that I find highly irritating.

He gets made fun of a lot, but nothing too nasty, which makes me think that we really have kind of a more laissez-faire approach to homosexuality than the US, while being more close-minded overall. (I'm really hoping that makes sense to other people, not just sleep-deprived-and-hungry me.) It's like you said the other day -- it's okay if others are gay, it just doesn't happen in my family. My mom freaks out when I even joke about telling my grandparents that I ran off with an older woman so they'd stop bothering me about having babies.

Oh, I've heard of him! Yeah, he doesn't look like somebody whose music I might necessarily enjoy, but hey - good for him, at least he's doing something, you know? I'm glad there's at least one, but I wonder if people wouldn't feel worse if it were a less flamboyant and more "normal'ny" person, like, say, Men'shikov. Because it's easier to think of Moiseev as totally other, but Men'shikov would fuck with people's heads. It's so sad that that attitude still exists. *sigh* But I'm happy to hear that at least there's thriving communities in large cities. HURRAH. At least it's LEGAL now, Jesus Christ.

I could forward you a report on homophobia in Ukraine that I translated... gives an interesting overall picture. I also translated for the conference on homophobia in Kyiv in October which was rather interesting - got to hear a range of Eastern European perspectives. E-mail me if you want me to send you the above. jcarko at yahoo dot ca

Moiseev? Was he in the New Year's concert? Was he in Zolushka?

So the "it doesn't happen in my family" could just be my mother carrying on her Russian/Ukrainain tradition (despite the fact that she was essentially born in Canada)... interesting. (Though I'm thinking it's also a bit of a North American philosophy as well.)
