No. NO.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Please say it isn't so! Please, let WB say it's all a bunch of crap and they're in the process of getting Daniel Day-Lewis! Please!.. For the love of all that's HOT and SLASHY in this world, this can't be true.

No. Noooooooooooooooooooooooo........

*whimpers*

You know, I was quite calm when it was still a rumour, but this has gone just a little too far for my liking. Much too far.

He's really not Sirius. He's not damnit.

Ahem, yes I'm sure you knew that.

[identity profile] mrsronweasley.livejournal.com 2003-01-11 08:32 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. Alas. Argh. *sigh*

well,

[identity profile] taelonmahal.livejournal.com 2003-01-11 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
it could be worse

Re: well,

[identity profile] mrsronweasley.livejournal.com 2003-01-11 08:33 am (UTC)(link)
true. we could have gotten Hordley. *shudders*

[identity profile] taelonmahal.livejournal.com 2003-01-11 09:14 am (UTC)(link)
see! :)

always look on the bright side of the cast ;)

[identity profile] lea-ndra.livejournal.com 2003-01-11 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
I agree. It could be far worse, hon. I myself shuddered in horror when the rumor about Thewlis (spell?) came up. And Oldman can act. Did you see him in Sid and Nancy? ... it really, really could be far worse.

I would prefer someone else myself, but really, there were far worse rumors going around. He is a bit short for a Sirius, but Oldman is kind of handsome.

I just don`t know why they cast them older than they are... I mean, Sirius would be 34 or 35 right? It`s the same with Snape. I adore Alan Rickman, but in my opinion, they are all a bit too old for the part.

Anyway, no actor can ever match the Sirius I have in mind, so Oldman is as good as everybody else (in my humble opinion better than A LOT!).

calm down. really, it could be worse. I wonder who will be Remus. And btw: nothing is set until it`s announced offically by WB.

*hugs*
Lea

See, I KNOW it would be worse, we could have gotten Robson Green or Jeff Hordley, but I think it's the reality of the thing. He just doesn't seem like Sirius to me, and I have been 'involved' with these two characters for so long, that, honestly, no matter who they choose, I'll grumble. Because there is no actor that could live up to my Remus - or Sirius.

I will see the movie - but I'm still...worried...

[identity profile] lea-ndra.livejournal.com 2003-01-11 08:38 am (UTC)(link)
I really understand that. But anyway, even if the actors chosen for Sirius/Remus would fulfill your expectations, the Sirius/Remus in your mind would STILL look different. At least, that`s with me an Qui/Obi. Although I somehow know that Qui-Gon looks like Liam Neeson and Obi-Wan like Ewan McGregor (and hey, those two are like the hottest man walking this earth, at least for me), Qui/Obi in my head look nothing like Ewan or Liam.

:-)

[identity profile] sekhmet2.livejournal.com 2003-01-11 06:15 am (UTC)(link)
::grumble, grumble:: Well, I think that we should make big posters of Mieko's Disgusted!Remus and post them everywhere. And, of course, posters of the latest one--did you see that on her lj? ;-)

Ahhh, well, it *could* be worse--they could have cast Hordley. Still, I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that it isn't true, at least until I see absolute confirmation from WB that it's so.

What I'm really hoping is that the rumour of David Thewlis isn't true--it was going around the snapeslash list that he might be cast as Remus and if that happens..... ::shudders:: Slash as we know it is down the fuckin' toilet! Eeeeuuuuwwwww!! I'll be having Luna make all sorts of RF/DD-L photo manips just to get the vile images out of my traumatized brain.

[identity profile] mrsronweasley.livejournal.com 2003-01-11 08:36 am (UTC)(link)
LOL. Indeed.

I know that Oldman is a fantastic actor - and he IS sexy, in his own Oldman-y way, but he isn't Sirius. That's just it. He isn't. Not to me. And my Sirius is...is...mine. Argh. I can't even talk coherently anymore.

*sigh*

Re:

[identity profile] sekhmet2.livejournal.com 2003-01-11 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, Oldman *is* a fantastic actor, no doubt about it. Just that I don't see him as Sirius, at least not *my* Sirius. I'm sure he could do a passable job, maybe even a good job--I just don't see Sirius as looking like that.

But then again, *I* won't be happy unless Daniel Day-Lewis and Ralph Fiennes are cast in the roles of our beloved pups. And, as you well know, it *is* All About Me...... ;-)

Really?

[identity profile] zsenya.livejournal.com 2003-01-11 06:51 am (UTC)(link)
Really? Is our twinness diminishing? I would actually be really happy if Oldman was cast, I have to say. Why? Because I've never seen any fan suggest him, and that means that Cuaron is thinking "outside the box" so to speak. And besides, no one will replace the characters in my head - even Dan, Rupert and Emma, as wonderful as they are, have not done that at all.

:) Zsenya, who tries to look on the bright side, and likes David Thewlis too (!)

Re: Really?

Really? Is our twinness diminishing?

LoL. Noooo!

See, my problem with Gary Oldman is not that he's a bad actor - he isn't - but that he isn't Sirius. He's just NOT. I can't explain it any other way, he just doesn't feel like Sirius to me. At all!.. I'm losing heart. But I'll wait and see. Maybe the movie will redeem him. But I will always have MY Sirius in my mind, no matter who is cast. I still have my Harry, and my Hermione, and DEFINITELY my Ron, so who knows. Maybe it'll be ok. :)

Peter Thewlis does nothing for me. Sad, because there's only one other person he could be playing... and that person, in my head, does a lot for me. A whole hell of a lot.

Yes, I'm trying being unemotional. But it's hard work. *sigh*

[identity profile] soupytwist.livejournal.com 2003-01-11 07:10 am (UTC)(link)
That was my first response too, but then I thought 'at least he's not Robson fucking Green'. And he is incredibly versatile - he looks very different in all his roles, and so with the right make-up I think he might be okay.

Let's hope.

(And I'm afraid I'd die if it was Daniel Day Lewis, I can't stand him. :))

[identity profile] mrsronweasley.livejournal.com 2003-01-11 08:43 am (UTC)(link)
That was my first response too, but then I thought 'at least he's not Robson fucking Green'.

True. God, that would have been horrible. But still. He doesn't have Sirius's stature. That's it!! I just realized my entire problem with the man - I see Sirius, and have always seen him, as BIG. Not fat, quite thin, in fact, but very tall and IMPOSING. Just ask Z - I think she and I discussed this - it's like he hovers over everyone else, and that he almost slouches because he's so tall. And Gary Oldman doesn't have that. For me, that's one of Sirius's defining characteristics, as far as appearance/personality goes. You know? Which is why I wanted DDL. (Sorry :))

But we can't have it all. Alas.

Re:

[identity profile] soupytwist.livejournal.com 2003-01-11 08:46 am (UTC)(link)
Well, camera angles can do a lot to give that 'very tall and imposing' impression without the actor having it. Dude, on the West Wing, the guy who plays the President is meeeeeeny, and he still KIX butt and seems like he'd tower over everyone... and then it's a shock when you realise he doesn't. :)

[identity profile] awelkin.livejournal.com 2003-01-11 08:20 am (UTC)(link)
Oldman will bring depth to the role. He has good eyes, and that's a great and important thing.

AND he can act like a man who has experienced hardship and despair. I doubt very much if you'd pop out of Azkaban all hot and sexy.

In short, I'm beginning to warm up to the choice. I hope that Oldman can seduce me with the way he delivers the words. That will be very important.

Sirius just out of Azkaban is one of the most revolting sights, I am sure. Believe me, have thought about this. The man hasn't brushed his teeth in twelve years, as well as anything else. He needs to look like hell - but that's not the point. He needs to be able to clean up nice, for GoF. Harry describes him as "handsome". Harry is 13, and his idea of handsome must be something close to conventional at that age. So, that's the thing. I have to be able to look at post Azkaban Sirius and know that underneath the years and the hardship, there's MY Sirius. I don't know if that makes any sense.

I know GO has depth and he's a good actor. But he just disappoints me in this part. And I can't help that.

[identity profile] awelkin.livejournal.com 2003-01-11 09:40 am (UTC)(link)
I can really understand that.

Strangely enough, I was hoping for Hugh Laurie as Arthur Weasley. I had a really hard time with the fellow they cast. It didn't match at all.

I'm sorry for your disappointment.

My God! Am I the only person in this entire fandom who's kinda EXCITED about Gary Oldman as Sirius? I love that man! He's... excellent. Beyond looks, he's an amazing actor, one of my favourites. Admittedly, he's a bit short, but really.

[identity profile] ballyharnon.livejournal.com 2003-01-11 11:54 am (UTC)(link)
no, hon, i'm madly excited! Gary Oldman is probably the best candidate for sirius around, certainly better than Daniel Day-Lewis, who is, at best, a mediocre actor, and doesn't look at all right for the part.

and he's worlds better than Robson 'Set My Face On Fire And Put It Out With A Frying Pan And Call It Cosmetic Surgery' Green.

plus, how much does it rock that a man who played Sid Vicious is going to take the role? (which, incidentally, means that age isn't too far off, as Sirius and Sid could be argued to be aged within about ten years of one another) i definitely want to see Sirius looking pitiably filthy and disgusting all through the third film.

and if he doesn't have cropped hair by the fourth film, i'm going to cry.

[identity profile] taintedrocky.livejournal.com 2003-01-11 09:58 am (UTC)(link)
I'll agree wholeheartedly....

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

That is NOT Sirius Black! *sigh* I really, really hope that isn't true...

[identity profile] miraminx.livejournal.com 2003-01-11 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
This is why I say, fuck the movies. I'm sticking with the books, where I can imagine the characters the way *I* see them. And, you know, if I don't go to the movies, I don't waste almost 3 hours at a pop as Columbus and his hack scriptwriter turn a vividly-written book into a dull, plodding, indifferently acted mess.

/vitriol

Sorry about that. I guess I had a rant or two stored up.
