I know. just posted it on my journal. We should not panic. There is no need to. It´s awful, but it`s not the end of the world.
And the Scotman can`t do anything for it, Liz. Actually, they warned us, which is a good thing, so we weren`t hit out of nowhere. (The article was shite, but it was a warning as well..)
Bleh. If you ask me (and I've noticed nobody HAS ;P), it's stupid and risky to do something like that in an already compromised fandom. They KNOW the public eye is on us and yet the go and start a major r-rated HP fic page.
The only thing killing this fandom is it's own stupidity.
If you build something like that at a time like this, only your idiocy is the cause of the problem, though The Scotsman didn't help.
I know that. Which is why I'm afraid. And I think it's my right to bitch about it, just like it's her right to take it all away, as sad as that may be. Hell, let's face it - fanfiction is a big part of our lives, in one form or another. It's just sad to see it go. I knew this would happen one day - I was just hoping that one day would be years from now.

Well, that's true, but it's not even this specific site that worries me. It's all the other ones that they could potentially go after and poof!, they're all gone. THAT'S what scares me.
It's true that it was a warning, but it really makes me mad that the article was so horrible. Honestly, it just pisses me off that something so badly-done can have such an impact. It WAS the Scotsman, like Roche said. Which means that it's right where JKR is - and they hit it right where it hurts. *sigh* But there's always hope. Yes, there's always hope.
I think that the best thing to do right now is just keep calm and hope that it all blows over. Hopefully, this is just another incident of things getting all blown out of proportion, and that sanity will eventually prevail. (Yeah, right, I know!) I talked to Nezad about the Lair and she's concerned, but not overly so. I know that everything there is backed up and saved.
Just keep thinking positive thoughts. Besides, I doubt they could shut down *every* website, and people are going to move them, use different names, post to their live journals and to the Yahoo groups, etc. I don't think it's the end of fanfic (slash or otherwise) as we know it, but it would probably be prudent to lie low for a bit. Too bad we can't 'lie low at Lupin's'..... ;-)
::hugs:: Now I wish that I'd gone to law school! The Lord High Executioner of S.L.A.S.H. could expand her realm of terror and destruction. ::snerk::
Seeing as other sites haven't recieved C&Ds, I would speculate that the C&Ders are hoping that sending one will scare other people off. FD.Net, FF.Net, SQ haven't recieved C&Ds. I haven't heard of any others.
I would also speculate that before the Scotsman article, JK could ignore that material but the nature of that article forced her to address an issue she had been relatively quiet on or that fan fiction writers in regards to a subject were to close to an issue at hand that she wanted to quiet them for her own protection, IE Snape is gay or something like that.

And she has a right to do with it what she will, whether you like it or not. It is the risk of fan fiction.

It's very natural to be sad and concerned, but don't let worry destroy what you have right now. Enjoy what you can for as long as you can. :)
