On Precious Things. Heh.

Ok, so last night was completely nuts. We all know this. There was hardly a Potter-head that was not bouncing off various walls, even if in their minds only. (Such as me. I couldn't fucking make a peep. So when Sam called, he got an earful. Poor boy, HOW does he put up with me?!) Although I did notice one absentee in particular. I'd noticed YOU weren't even online. ;) Trying to avoid all the insanity, huh?

In any case, yes, we're all excited. And yes, the first sentence does sound sort of...ummm...sexy. Hey, don't laugh at me - I know some of you agreed, so don't even try.

And, yes, we know that Dumbledore will start telling Harry all about the Birds and the Bees. Just you wait.

But here is the real excitement - the length. And the fact that a certain someone FINALLY makes another appearance, after being gone for much, much too long. And that certain someone is bound to be in a room with a certain OTHER someone at least once in the course of this book. And then - sparks better fly, man. They'd just better.

I will mourn and wear all black for the rest of the summer if a girlfriend or wife shows up. And I will wail for a year if one of them dies. Which they won't. No way in hell.

And poor [livejournal.com profile] soupytwist will have to restrain me and take the book away from me for a breather if any one of those things will happen. And she will mourn with me. You know why? Because she better come for this! (I will email you with all the details, love.)

Tori tonight. Jesus. That will be amazing, of course. We're going into town relatively early so we can walk around the best parts of London and enjoy ourselves, and then we're going to the concert. Wow. This will be awesome.

Andnow, I have an assignment for all R/S fans out there -

What are your favorite stories? Think by more than one author. There IS a viable reason I'm asking, so let me know. And no, I won't tell you what it is - and those that know, not a peep out of you. ;)

In any case. Happy Thursday, everyone. The countdown has begun. This will be the longest five months of your life.

Enjoy. *g*

Just a note to explain that

I read Dad the description of last night, since he was the one who had to put up with me.

He told me to write that last comment.

:-)

I can't count up my favourite R/S stories, because I never remember anything like that, although Canis M is my favourite R/S author. Will have to research more into the rest of what I've loved.

If either of them dies, I'm just going to cry. I will be peeved if they show up with wifes/girlfriends, but I'll get over it. I don't think I'm ever going to quite forgive Rowling if either of them dies.

Kewl. Please report back with findings. ;)

I'll never forgive her, either. To have created such characters and then taken them away so cruelly... Just not fair. At all.

You know what's funny? There was poll on SBRL once upon a moon, whether we would like them to live but end up with wives/girlfriends, have them declare their love for one another, and one of them die, or leave it ambigious and have one of them die.

I did not choose the girlfriend one. How sad it that?!

[identity profile] mapletide.livejournal.com 2003-01-16 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
*wry smile* I suppose that reminding myself that jumping up and down while in the elevator was in bad taste since it was already acting broke, and being like "Ooooo... more Harry, more Ron and Hermione..." and then nearly letting out a squeal when it clicked that there. would. be. Remus... er, could qualify as being excited.

Sigh.

As for favourite R/S stories... hmm. Of Linen. Stigmatized. Fairy Boys. Gravity. How to Find a Mate in Less than Thirty Days. There's Drawing Down the Moon, of course, and some others that are WIPs. Eh, that's a few, and there's more than that still. Sigh. Got a few days to listen, because i know there's this long long long long list somewhere. It's just a matter of finding it.

Never wrong to squeal and stomp. Ever. *G*

Well, then, find it. ;) Hehehe... I'm not a nazi. Not at all.

I will join the wailing if either dies. Besides, I've made my preemptive, foresight-inspired peace with Hagrid dying in Book 5, I don't think I could stomach anyone else dying. But I won't be nearly so sad if girlfriends or wives show up (ex or present) show up. I mean, it's JKR. It will be phenomenal no matter what.

And have fun at Tori tonight!

I know it's Hagrid in this book. I just know it. (Sorry, David... :( ), but I'm worried about future books. I do like Roche's explanation - see below - and will stick to that until JKR proves me wrong. So, there.

And I WILL wail if a female love interest shows up. No matter how well-written it is. Because, dammit, it's just...not right. lol

Sam's right...I need to get a grip...

Remus plays a large part in book 7, apparently, so rest assured he won't be killed off. Yet. (Although I genuinely believe he'll be a survivor.)

My betting's on Hagrid for the chop in this one, especially after that revoltingly cheesy scene at the end of the CoS film. And she wouldn't kill off more than one major character per book, at this stage; so Sirius is safe. For the moment.

Final point: I remain unconvinced that JKR can write non-caricature women.

That is all.

Roche

ps -- actually, it isn't all. Of course, and yes. Will be in touch. Enjoy your concert!

[identity profile] mrsronweasley.livejournal.com 2003-01-17 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
I do like your logic, my dear, and I thank you. I knew that Remus had a big part, supposedly, in Book 7. (He better, he's the MAN, after all.) But I was still slightly worried. But now that the book is finished and we'll have it in less than a year, there's no reason to get worried before then. I'll save my nerves for something a little more, er, tangible.

Final point: I remain unconvinced that JKR can write non-caricature women.

Really? Interesting... I guess we'll wait and see. Do you see Hermione as a charicature, too?

Of course, and yes.

Yay! It took me a while, but finally understood. Thank you! :D

(Anonymous) 2003-01-17 06:00 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, I'm here at the same time as you are!

Do you see Hermione as a charicature, too?

No, Hermione is the only one who isn't. I wonder if that isn't because JKR has put a lot of herself into Hermione, so she's three-dimensional. (Of course, movie!Hermione is another matter. But we won't go there.)

ps -- Much howling, not of a good kind, on SBRL last night.

Hmmmm...perhaps... I'm hoping that we'll get more development there (with female characters, that is.) She has three more books to go - who knows!..

Yeah, I saw! I didn't read most of the posts - we all know we're disappointed. But at this point, I just say - let 'em make a movie and get it over with. And we'll continue writing slash. With our OWN Remuses and Sirii.

I'm sorry, Liz!

*snuggle*

I don't think the full shock has set in yet. Wait until June, I'll be shrieking my head off and stalking the sidewalk outside of Barnes and Noble predatorily for the whole month :).

And Holy Mary Mother of Christ, 768 pages?

You could bludgeon someone to death with that.

The PAPERBACK version.

Oh, it's not problem! I actually thought it was extremely amusing, myself. ;) (And, whoa, deja vu, if ever I felt it...)

Good boy. ;)

Isn't it fantastic?!? I cannot wait. It's going to be amazing - and it will last oh so much longer than PS or CoS or even PoA and GoF - and that is unbelievable. Wow.

I have a list of people I'd want to bludgeon to death - doing it with HP would be even more satisfying than is right. Heh.

Whoo, what a list, eh? Thank you, Ni! Fantastic. There are some that I had quite forgotten about. Awesome. And 'HSD' made your list? Really? Yaaay... :)

Favourite R/S stories, eh? Do you have, oh say, about three *days* for me to list them all?!? Seriously, though, there are so many that it's hard to narrow them down. I can try though. GrimSlasher's "Boy's Own Camping Adventure" and "Love In The Ruins", as well as Rochelle's "Unless You Mean It"--not only are they fantastic, but they were my entry into the lovely world of slash. Ailei's "Clued" because it was, and still is, the hottest damn thing I have ever read in my life. Also, Ailei's "The Sickness" because I don't think that I've ever had such a gut-wrencing, powerful reaction to a fic before--I *wept* as I read it. Ailei and Khirsah's "Drawing Down The Moon". Nezad's "The First Night" because I couldn't shake the image of that photograph from my mind, and because I adore the generally happy and content universe that she, Treemonisha and I have managed to create from that one fic. Your fic, HSD, is a favourite as well!

Really, it's hard to narrow them down--I love so many fics for so many different reasons. I tend to like happy fics (or at least angsty fics that end happily!) because I think the boys have suffered too much in their lives and *deserve* happiness, as well as the fact that I have too much unhappiness in my own life and don't care to immerse myself in angst when I read.

Hope that helps with whatever you needed it for!
