That gazeta.ru article I linked above says that the interior and all the historic artefacts relating to the Izmailovsky regiment have been lost for decades. (Fucking revolution.) So I suppose that's one less thing to mourn now. They've been trying to restore the interior since 1990, but now it's looking even less likely, especially since it really isn't one of the most important cathedrals. There are so many churches that have suffered nearly irreparable damage in the 20th century, and only a handful have been restored. There just aren't the resources.
