Geoffrey Tennant, how are you so awesome?

I am in a surprisingly fine and dandy mood this morning.

I think this may have to do with the fact that the Professor AU is nearly there. Like, nearly, semi-done, almost, give it another... oh God... 1500-2000 words?.. Maybe not even that. I can't really tell at this point. Ray and Fraser are setting the pace, and I'm just following.

(I know that's probably the wrong way of writing - letting the characters take the lead - but it's the only way I know how to write. I have a certain set of criteria, but everything else - the pace, when certain actions take place, where, even - pretty much comes as I'm writing. I can't imagine plotting out a fic and actually following a certain outline. I'd love to know how people do it, because with me, it just doesn't happen. The characters do their thing and I just write it all down.)

So, anyway. It's nearly 10,000 words long. I...I really couldn't tell you how that happened.

In other fine and dandy news, Jesus CHRIST, Hugh. Looking AMAZING. I'm just all a-flail. God, his STARE. I wish pictures could talk - that way we'd hear his sexy voice, too. Mmmph. He's just...wow. Wow. I mean...damn. And yeah. I love him bald. (But, look, you can already see some fuzz growing in! So cute!)

And, speaking of stunning people with sexy voices, look what [livejournal.com profile] sam80853 posted this morning -

Geoffrey Tennant, through the ages.

Oh, Paul. How are you so amazing?

It's like a conspiracy with Canada, isn't it? They're just teasing the rest of us.

So, some initial thoughts on the ending of "Slings & Arrows."

Geoffrey. Geoffrey, Geoffrey, Geoffrey. Imperfect, tired, confused, desperate, dense Geoffrey. If he weren't now married (!!!!!), I would get down on one knee. As it is, I just...I'm speechless. His last conversation with Oliver, before Oliver leaves - you know that he doesn't want to say goodbye, and he's completely in over his head and yet not, and he doesn't get to tell him. He tells it to an empty chair, but...I'd like to think that Oliver heard him. Oh God, I cried like a baby.

The entire time I was watching, actually, especially the last episode, I could not be quiet. I flailed and squealed and yelled at the screen, I kicked and screamed and just...God. God, what a fucking exhausting emotional experience. How do they DO that?

Things I sort of called:

- Geoffrey having to get over the final hurdle of acting. He had to do it. He had to. And he DID, and God, I had goosebumps the entire fucking time he was on stage

- Richard never being redeemed

- Anna kicking TOTAL ASS

Things I didn't really expect:

- Geoffrey and Ellen getting married. Wow, I don't know. I wasn't expecting that. But I'm so happy for them. The moment when they kissed, and after Geoffrey said hello to an old friend, when he looked at her, and just said, "Oh my God," with this wonder in his voice, it wasn't about his returned woody, and it wasn't about anything else but what he saw in her face, and GOD, it took them fucking long enough. Jesus. Of course she loves you, you idiot.

It was interesting to see how the tables seemed to flip, and how Ellen wanted him back, and how Geoffrey was the one focused entirely on the production, entirely. And Ellen. I still love Ellen. I love her more than ever.

(And, on a shallow note, that scene in the fifth episode, where she's smoking on the couch? Jesus Christ. If anybody wants to make me an icon, I- I wouldn't refused. She was stunning.)

- Wow, so, the New Burbage Festival has finally lived up to the advertisement. "Don't bother". Oh, Richard, you fucker. I almost liked you. I almost did. You came so close to becoming a human being. But...no. Maybe some of what Anna said to you in your last meeting will penetrate that thick head of yours, but I really, seriously doubt it.

And I love that. I love that they didn't cheese out, I love that things went to shit and there's no way they'll ever get back what they had with Geoffrey. It's DARREN NICHOLS. They're FUCKED.

When Frank - it was Frank, right? - stood up and begged Geoffrey not to go, I... God, I cried. And Geoffrey, just...strode out. Gave up.

FUCK. Fuck, I can't possibly do it all justice. This is so disjointed, but I just - I can't even get my head together.

Anna - I WANT TO MARRY HER. I have loved her since the first time we saw her, and she's lived up to every single expectation I had of her. She was amazing. She was strong, and kind, and compassionate, and fair, and just a stunning person all around. She's the complete antithesis to Richard. I am so GLAD nothing actually happened between them, because he was never good enough for her, not ever. She can do so much better. She WILL do so much better.

Charles. CHRIST. CHARLES. I was so fucking angry at him when he pushed Ellen, I was furious. And then, you just...you can't hate him. You can't. Not when he delivers that kind of a performance. And the bowling! Charles kicking Geoffrey's ass. That was just beyond wonderful. Their entire dynamic, their relationship - I could watch those two forever. They did such an incredible job.

I don't think I ever mentioned this, but I loved, loved, LOVED the repetition of the ticking sound they had all through the season, how time was running out, time was running out, things were collapsing, and time wasn't stopping for any of it. Charles was dying, the production was sinking, and it was only a matter of time. It just worked for me.

What else, what else. The scene between Anna and Maria was sheer BRILLIANCE. Again, Richard waking up in bed next to the girl AND the musical writer was sheer brilliance. Oh my God, I LOVE THIS SHOW.

Barbara. Oh, man. She sort of redeemed herself in the end, but fuck. That was not fun. Good for Ellen, I was cheering. I would have smacked her a long time ago. The drunk scene was kind of astonishingly like a train wreck. I loved it.

I love that the ending wasn't perfect - that was perfect. Of course, the assholes triumph. But that doesn't mean that the good guys lose. Geoffrey and Ellen have to start from scratch - of course they do. But they CAN do it. They'll get support, they'll get the money, hell, I'm sure they'll get the actors. Anna - Anna will be JUST FINE. I am still so proud of her. Richard is a fucking prick. I'm sorry, he just - he IS. He wanted, so badly, for her to tell him that he wasn't, so desperately - "I don't fire my FRIENDS" - but you know what, Richard? No one but you can make you not a prick, and you failed. Sorry, buddy.

Um, what else, what else... I absolutely love Geoffrey's therapist.

Oliver broke my heart. Oliver and Geoffrey stomped on it together.

The young guys are cute, but I was pretty 'feh' about their storyline. Don't know, didn't grab me.

The Bolivians finally got their 15 minutes.

The production was stunning, even with hardly any set or lights or, well, audience. GOD. I love them all SO MUCH. And Charles got his dying wish, and Oliver came to get him, in the end. I had goosebumps. Oh, Charles.

I think that's it for now. You can tell I'm not at my most erudite this morning, and I apologize for that. I think my brain permanently melted.

In conclusion? GEOFFREY TENNANT.

And now, to work, and I shall endeavor to answer every single outstanding comment. It's a hard job, but somebody's gotta do it. Right? Right.

It's like a conspiracy with Canada, isn't it? They're just teasing the rest of us.

It's the water. They put something in it, I swear.

Usually couples who are actually couples IRL don't have any spark of chemistry because it's old hat to them. Paul and Martha practically set fire to the set. Makes me wonder what kind of marriage they have. It's gotta be good.

In conclusion? GEOFFREY TENNANT.

Woah. I actually said this in a comment somewhere last night. Great minds actually do think alike, I guess. *g*

They put something in it, I swear.

They must. I just can't think of any other explanation.

Paul and Martha practically set fire to the set.

Definitely in this season, for sure. They were stunning. I just fell in love with both of them. God!

I actually said this in a comment somewhere last night.

Hee! Awesome. That must mean we drew the right conclusion!

YAY professor AU! You know I've taken it upon myself to be your own personal cheerleader for this, right? Because I am more excited than I can even express. WHEE!

Now, I have to go watch S&A sometime today, so that I don't have to frantically scroll past people's entries. Yeah.

[identity profile] mrsronweasley.livejournal.com 2006-09-12 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Woohoo! Having a cheerleader really, really helps. So thank you! :D I'm more than excited about it. Actually, it's just SAD how much I'm loving them this way.

And YES, oh DO! It's BRILLIANT. GOD. Also, your icon is making me so happy. Oh, Geoffrey and his razor blade. ♥

This whole post brings me vast and meaningful joy.

you are SO right about this:

And I love that. I love that they didn't cheese out, I love that things went to shit and there's no way they'll ever get back what they had with Geoffrey. It's DARREN NICHOLS. They're FUCKED.

i didn't WANT it to be okay without geoffrey, and it WASNT and that was PERFECT. You're so right.

and ANNA was just completely awesome, and you know, again, I sort of love that Richard didn't get redemption, either. Honestly, he's the kind of guy that will never learn, not really, and if they had made him save the day, I would have been pissed.

I agree with you on the ticking, but one thing that has bothered me about the whole show is the phones ringing in the background. Every office scene had it, and I dont know, the sound guy didnt get it right, because I found it intrusive. I think, intellectually, I understand why they had it - it's the sound of good THEATRE trying to be run when really, it's a BUSINESS, and that makes sense, but I always, always thought it was MY phone ringing.

uhm. *grins* I can let it go, though. Because: GEOFFREY.

I did love that final scene with the therapist, because god, yeah, it was Geoffrey having to talk to the dead the way the rest of us do, in our heads, you know?

and I still hate the lizard queen, but again: people don't change overnight. And? She showed up. So she gets points for that.

oh, I SO NEED to watch this with you! ♥

[identity profile] mrsronweasley.livejournal.com 2006-09-13 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
God, I cannot wait for tomorrow. Dude. We will flail SO MUCH.

i didn't WANT it to be okay without geoffrey, and it WASNT and that was PERFECT.

I'm so, so glad you agree with me on this. Because it can't be the same without Geoffrey - Geoffrey is what turned it around in the first place. He made the place tremble, just for a little tiny bit, just for two seasons, he brought the fucking house down. Nobody can replicate that. Nobody.

And Anna! I have such a serious crush on her. She was AMAZING. And Richard - I'm glad you agree. I know a lot of people loved him despite his being an ass, but he just pushed all the wrong buttons for me. Just...ALL the wrong buttons. I wanted to smack him 90% of the time. He is just that sort of guy. You're totally right.

The phone thing - huh! I never even noticed. *g* I'll have look for it now. Or, um, listen, I guess. But, really, Geoffrey makes everything better.

it was Geoffrey having to talk to the dead the way the rest of us do, in our heads, you know?

YES. And even though that's what he's been striving for, somewhat, it broke my heart, because he lost his friend. And it just...Oh, Geoffrey.

So, um. YAY!!

Yay on the AU!

Can't read the S&A stuff, haven't seen season Three yet. Eep.

But yes, HUGH. I really want to know when did he get SO HOT, hm? He definitely wasn't that hot before. I would have noticed. I notice stuff like that, you know? Will I be that hot too when I turn 43? *hopes*

[identity profile] mrsronweasley.livejournal.com 2006-09-13 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
Oooooh, you have a LOT to look forward to! Seriously. I'm almost jealous. ;)

YES. Oh my God, I don't KNOW! He just suddenly went all Mr Hollywood on us, didn't he? Wearing the suits and being all clean-shaven. And I don't normally go in for that, but it's Hugh, so it's automatically ten times hotter. How? No idea. Just...HUGH. ♥ I am in such a Hugh-happy mood today. *g* I hope I look this good NOW, damn, boy!

yeah. oh HUGH.

Is it wrong that while those pictures make me fan myself everywhere, I also think that he'd've been a good choice to play Voldemort?
ext_10634: (asp | paul is pretty.)

[identity profile] snoopypez.livejournal.com 2006-09-12 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
ok, seriously. This character Geoffrey is played by someone named Paul? I never connected that before, and it is freaking me out, since ALREADY every time I see the name Geoffrey I automatically think of Strangers With Candy. ;P Also played by a dude named Paul.

This post made me double take, you see. ;)

[identity profile] mrsronweasley.livejournal.com 2006-09-13 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
Yes! Heeee! Paul Gross plays Geoffrey Tennant in "Slings & Arrows". *g* He's PRETTY. *points to icon* See? Pretty. So, tell me about this other Geoffrey? Does he talk to dead people, too? *g*

You are so cute. :D
ext_10634: (swc | he's wonderful!)

[identity profile] snoopypez.livejournal.com 2006-09-13 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm, he IS kinda pretty. ;)

The other Geoffrey (pronounced JOFF-rey) does not see dead people! But he is an artist, and a narssacist and melodramatic and oh so very gay. ;P See the icon? Heeee.

[identity profile] alpheratz.livejournal.com 2006-09-13 03:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Cosign. And an extra helping of word on everything to do with Ellen. Fuck, I adore her.
