But can someone explain to me why he has to go? I mean, all the pople in the Bush-government supported the war in Iraq. So, why Rumsfeld and why now? If they wanted him gone because they were afraid to lose votes because of him, why didn't they make him go before the elections?
As my dad (who wasn't surprised, and took the fun out of me telling him) explained it, now that the Dems have a majority, they'll be starting investigations into the handling of the war/detainments/etc, and Rumsfeld is taking the fall preemptively.
Forgot to add that as Secretary of Defense, the handling of the war is his job, and even if other members of the Bush White House support it, he's the one that would be held directly accountable for major mistakes.
