On Pairings and Other Procrastinating Devices.

Well, since I'm here anyway, I won't even pretend that I haven't been obsessively looking at friend's pages just to not write this bloody essay. Although, so far, I'm actually rather eloquent. I suppose the subject matter - death, in case you're wondering - is stimulating. Or something.

Anyway, did the pairings meme, gacked from everybody, but mostly [livejournal.com profile] soupytwist, because one of her answers made my bloody day. (get it? death? bloody?... oy, i know.)

1. What are five pairings you haven't written but would like to?

Well, I haven’t tried my hand at writing actual, you know, HET, so maybe R/H.
Also, Snape/Harry, but it’s tough to pull off well, and only a select few have. But I’d still try. *coughs*
Ron/Harry, because it’s just so bloody adorable.
I’d love to write femmslash, but can’t find any suitable HP pairings... Help, someone?

2. What are five uncommon pairings you would like to see (regardless of whether or not you write them)?

That I haven’t seen yet? Oh, I dunno... It seems like everything’s been done, including Dobby/Dumbledore, so... hmm. (And ICK, by the way, in case you were wondering.)

3. What are five (or fewer, if you haven't done that many) pairings you've written?

R/S. J/L, as an auxiliary to my R/S. And my OC/OC, I suppose... Oh, and there was the Remus/OC, but that wasn’t pairing as much as just a one-night-fuck.

4. What are your five favorite pairings you've read?

R/S (no way!)
R/H
Snarry (I love that name...who came up with it first, anyway? Was it Jadis?)
Ron/Harry

5. Your favorite canon!student pairing(s)?

R/H
R/H (the other one)

6. Your favorite Marauder-era pairing(s)?

I’ll give you less than one guess.

7. Your favorite pastfic (i.e. before 1970s) pairing(s)?

*shrugs*

8. Your favorite canon!adult/student (over the age of consent and/or after they've finished at Hogwarts) pairing(s)?

Snape/Harry, and I stand by that, and worship the angst and the snark that it rests on. No, really. I don’t even feel guilty anymore. It fucking rules.

Mwahahahahahaaa...

Incidentally, speaking of R/S (someone was speaking of R/S?), I am currently reading the most amazing fic. It's tough, angst-RIDDEN, beautifully written and it's keeping me from writing my essay. It's LONG. And it's just...words cannot describe. I can't give my full impression yet, as I'm not finished. BUT. I do highly recommend it. It's not conventional, which is good, and the writing, like I said, is simply stunning. Original to such an extent that seeing a commonly-used phrase is almost like a let-down. But those come along very rarely. (Roche, if you're reading, I specifically think you might like it.)

Check it out here, it is called "Thing". (As seen on [livejournal.com profile] maybethemoon's LJ.)

And now off to...write my essay. I swear. My goal for today is to finish it, and dammit, finish it I shall. YES.

HP femslash

Yay femslash! I dig Ginny/Cho and one-sided Ginny/Hermione (not that I'm prejudiced towards that or anything, cause that would be weird, right?).

Firstly, that story — wow. That has to be among the best HPfics I've read, anywhere. The writing is breathtaking, the quality on a par with Whom he May Devour; and I can't give praise higher than that. I read this author's other HP story, Second of our Reign, a few months ago, and liked it, but this is in a different class altogether.
So thank you soooo much for the rec. I haven't finished it yet (kept me away from my work for three quarters of an hour!) but I'm so looking forward to it for later in the week. You obviously know me too well!

And you are an evil temptress — you know that, don't you? Thank you lots for thinking about me. I'll consider your kind offer but at the moment I have to say I'm highly tempted...

Hmmm... Ginny/Cho? How do you figure? I'm fascinated now... heh. *goes off to ponder*

Oh, I am SO glad you liked it! (Or are still liking it...) I just immediately thought of you as I started reading, and yes, I have thought about Whom He May Devour, as well. It's simply breathtaking. I have wasted HOURS today, reading it (though I still got my essay done!), and it has so been worth it. And I'm not done yet, though I shall be relatively soon.

I'll consider your kind offer but at the moment I have to say I'm highly tempted...

Good! That was, after all, the idea. *snerk* Obviously, I have my ulterior motives in mind here, so I won't even attemtpt to say "you don't have to". Heh. But you don't. But it'd be great if you did.

Ok, I'll shut up now, I promise. :)

Luuuuuurve the icon, baby! Do you have a recommendation for a good, short, not too smutty Snarry?

It's all about the want. Ginny wants Harry, Harry wants Cho, so let's skip the middleman! Plus, there are so many bad places you can go with it. Does Ginny want Cho just to prove that she can get what Harry can't? Is she using everyone involved? Or does Ginny decide she wants what Harry wants in that way that young girls start to mold themselves after their crushes? It is all so very wrong.

Wow. Huh. That's very...intriguing... Hmmmm... Good thinkin' there, you. And cut out the middleman. HEH.

Luuuuuurve the icon, baby!

Hmmm, I have a feeling I'll never be able to get rid of this one, eh? Heh. It's all right, I love it as well. Rent Boy!!

Non-smutty but good Snarry? Hmmm...you know, at the moment, it's hard to think of any (and I always seek out the smut, anyway. *whistles*) But I'll try to find you some. It's just that my favorite writers feel the same way about smut, and well, they're also very good at it. I can recommend a really excellent story that has smut but you can just skip over that, or something... What do you think? I think the smut mostly comes from the fact that the writer wants to explore every aspect of the relationship, and that's a bit part, after the emotional stuff has been, um, taken care of. (Or almost. Because there will always be baggage and such.) Right. Am shutting up now.

Still, want the link?
