Yes, yes, the chin, the chin! The last movie with him that I watched I kept squinting and trying to see at lease SOME Sirius in him - sort of going - "well, if they keep him at this angle, the entire movie, maaaaaybe it could work..." but then he'd lift his head and the CHIN - the chin would get me. *sigh*
Remember you're writing your smut for the Remus and Sirus from the books, not the movies, otherwise I'm afraid you won't be able to write them anymore *grins* Gary Oldman/David Thewlis pwp *shudders*.----------
Oh, God, do not utter such words! Noooooooooo! No, no, no! *hides face*
You've made me think a lot, and scared me a bit too. I guess there are things I needed to be told. *hugs*
After I sent the email, I got scared that maybe I was being too presumptuous. I'm glad, though, Ni, of what you just said. I am. *hugs*
Yes, I agree with you, Ni. Like most everyone else, I was absolutely horrified at the poor choices the WB folks chose for Remus and Sirius... ugghhh! I mean, sure, they're both fine actors, but .... just not appealing at all to me in the physical sense :-(. So, like you, the way I've kept from letting it get to is to remember it was Remus and Sirius in the books that I first was enthralled with -- those glorious dimensional *gorgeous* men -- the ones I see in my head, and thankfully, those images can not be tampered with by asinine filmmakers ;-D.
You mean like the picture TLC has up? That one makes me feel almost okay with the fact he'll be playing Sirius. Everyone go chex it out, it will make you feel better than the above... urg.
Yeah, see, Oldman can look pretty cute at times...and, come on, he was Sid Vicious...it's not Jason Carter/Ralph Fiennes, but those two make out in my daydreams all the time anyway. I think it'll be...okay. Not great, but okay. I have promised myself that I will not cry.
Yeah, that's from 'The Scarlet Letter' I think. He looked okay in that. I hope they see his Sirius as something of that ilk. All I can see is his guest appearance in 'Friends' a couple of series back. I like him, I really do. I always have but...he's not. MY. Sirius.. And 'Schnozz' Thewlis? I could spit. Or cry. Or throw a tantrum. Again. It hurts to think of that as Remy. Ah well, keep reading, and writing. And let's be honest, we'll all go and watch. It'll be fun in that the guy who's playing Pettigrew, Timothy Spall, is actually taller than Oldman or Thewlis in real life. *snigger for that alone*
All I can see is his guest appearance in 'Friends' a couple of series back.
LOL! I know!! (And I HATE "Friends", so...) I feel exactly as you do. He is not my Sirius.
And as for Thewlis. Well. Not Going There.
Timothy Spall is taller?! Oh man. Now THAT'S funny.
BY the way, has it escaped their notice that Sirius is, well, huge? Like, REALLY FUCKING TALL? I don't think it's fanon, either - he is described as tall in PoA. And, I mean, Padfoot is a friggin' bear-like dog. Pretty damn big.
Why, yes, he did! *g* Upon remembering, he decided to abandom the conversation and go off in the pursuit of another sort of happiness. Sirius was grateful.
The fact that he was Sid Vicious is mighty cool. But it still doesn't sell him as Sirius for me. Sorry. It just...hasn't happened. He is a wonderful actor, and has very intense eyes. Still. He is no Sirius. Not my Sirius. But then, we now have Michael Gambon as Dumbledore. If they keep going at this rate (I'm not even TOUCHING Thewlis here), I won't be seeing this movie. Just out of sheer love for PoA.
GAHHHHHH!!! ::runs screaming from room to throw a blanket over head:: We're not gonna even *talk* about Thewlis. ::shivers:: I imagine that I shall have to wait to see this movie until it comes out on DVD so that I can fast forward through all of the scenes with them in it.....
Yep, back from Chicago with a purple ribbon in hand--Miss Arwen won on Thursday! My sweet girl.
Hosenose--eeeuuuwww. He just makes me shiver when I think of him as Remus. While he may be a fine actor, he is *not*, nor will he *ever* be Remus in my mind. That spot is eternally the place of Ralph Fiennes who will be Remus in all of my fics, just as DD-L will be Sirius.
Just my opinion, and as you know, it's all about me!
Oldman will make an absolutely horrid Sirius Black. Not knocking his acting skills- the man is certainly an actor. But he's got the body to play somebody from The Taming of the Shrew. Not Sirius Black.
And he's way too old.
Now, Thewlis? I don't mind him as Remus. Maybe a bit on the old side (Remus is between 32-38, I'd think. Probably 36.) to be playing him, but all the same, he has a cute if imperfect face, and I love his nose. But I have a thing for noses.
He's also got THE voice for Remus, I'm telling you. If need be I'll just close my eyes during his parts if it comes to it, but Thewlis has an amazing voice, and it is really very Lupin-like. He's got an excellent voice altogether, and has done numerous animation voice actings, and one major movie voice acting, in James And The Giant Peach. He was the Earthworm. So at the very least, Thewlis will be INCREDIBLY convincing in his part. Convincing is what he does, and to me, that's even more important than physical appearance.
Argh. In my opinion they've totally screwed up the casting of all the Marauders. They are all WAY too old for their roles.
Did the casting director bother to even read the books? In them, James doesn't have a receding hairline; Sirius is tall and has a chin; and Remus doesn't look like friggin Snuffle-upagus.
Poor Sirius and Remus. :(
*hat off*
By the way, I saw Thewlis in "Total Eclipse," where he had a gay love affair with Leo Dicaprio, and needless to say, it was not pretty. At all. *shudders*
Having said that, both are decent actors so I guess we should be thankful for small favors. *weeps*

Have you seen the picture of him with long hair though? He actually looks a little like Johnny Depp (read: good looking), IMO.

LOL-- you crack me up! I totally agree with you, of course, on Ol' Hosenose -- eeerrggghhh! Why, WHY would they select *him* for Remus??!! Bleh!
Still, like I said in my post above, I'm just going to stick to the gorgeous visions of the boys in my head -- yes, indeed! ;-D
