mrsronweasley: (joy in swings)

There's been sunshine here for days.

So, it is Monday Tuesday! And I am back at work. This weekend was kind of a godsend. Not going to New York worked out for the best for all involved. My sister had other visitors, AND got to actually go and see Patrick Stewart in "Macbeth" (from the FIRST ROW, guys. FIRST ROW.) And Tracey and I got to relax, catch up on almost ALL of our TV shows, read the bible, and do all kinds of fun (and some not so fun) chores. It. Was. AWESOME.

I already showed you all my closet - which still makes me hugely and ridiculously happy - so now I'm going to wax poetic about various TV/movie shenanigans. Right this way, and spoilers ahoy. I've left space between all these things so you can read/skip them at will...

ReGenesis: Could You TRY To Be More Depressing? OH WAIT FORGET I ASKED.

Okay, so we've only watched two episodes so far (guys, we're really, really behind. It's SHAMEFUL.) and already, I want to KILL myself. Suddenly, "mauled by bears"? Doesn't seem so bad! What with the INDIGENOUS PEOPLE GENOCIDE via REALLY HARDCORE SOUTH AFRICAN TB, and Carlos FINALLY getting some ass (some even on screen!) only to see his new lover SHOT IN THE HEAD IN FRONT OF HIS EYES, Bob's brain being TOTALLY FUCKED WITH, 'cause, you know, it wasn't fucked up enough ALREADY, people hurting themselves in new and horrible ways because they can't feel any pain, well, you know. Thanks, Canada? I - guess?

But, seriously. Peter Outerbridge - HOW are you so hot and pretty and fucking awesome? On a very shallow note, he looks SO much better with longer hair. (Also, when slightly beaten up. Thanks, show!)

Carlos! Carlos, Carlos, Carlos. Lost in Mexican woods! Under fire! What! WHY! I mean, I'm glad it worked out all right, but OMG THANKS A LOT. Because, with ReGenesis, you NEVER KNOW. I mean, Mayko's already lost a limb. (BTW, was it just me or did they totally drop the ball on the whole "Mayko meets a hot guy down in Hudson" thing? Because - and, obviously, I'm not up to date at all on this, but - there was definite "we're probably going to end up sleeping together, wherein you will discover I DO NOT HAVE A LEG and it will be awesome and angsty" vibe there, but then - nothing. OH WELL, we'll see.

So, yes. So far, so good. In that hearty, fucked-up, Canadian way. Oh, CANADA. ♥

SGA: The WTF Edition! News At Eleven.

All caught up! YAY! \o/

Rocks fall; everyone dies - BOO! /o\

(This will not make a lot of sense, time-line wise. Just my random thoughts all scrambled together!)

Seriously. What the FUCK. Thanks a LOT. I guess Canada rubs off on you after a while. I thought David Hewlett did an amazing job portraying an old guy. There were these subtle changes that I really liked, like the way he stood and the way he talked - even the way his voice sounded. Yay David Hewlett!

Teyla's breasts are kind of amazing.

Also, I LOVE that they brought Halling back (do you think they paid Christopher Heyerdahl twice for playing two parts? That would be AWESOME. You know, for him.) and that they really did kill of a huge portion of the Athosians. I mean, that's TERRIFYING, but I love the season-long arc.

I do think Teyla could have done much better in terms of a baby-daddy, and the angst is just so ANGSTY. Oh, Teyla! Your heaving bosoms break my heart, when I'm not drooling over them.

Also, Sheppard with his aviator glasses and a bandana over his face looked like a bandito. It was kind of awesome.

Saw Rodney and a Keller a thousand miles away, but I was kind of - happy that it probably won't happen in this reality? Maybe? She's cute, and I like her, but - feh! I don't know. But I do love Rodney very, very much.

And I think that's all the news that's fit to print. Except that awww, RONON. I LOVE YOU SO MUCH.

Doctor Who: The Best Cleavage In All The Land + Some Gross Stuff.

Seriously. Donna has amazing breasts. I just really wanted to point that out.

I'm really enjoying this season. I know that Donna's not everybody's cup of tea, and that's totally legitimate, but I LOVE her. I think she's hysterical and awesome and I'm really glad she doesn't think of him sexually in any way. He's just The Doctor! The guy who shows her around Time And Space!

As for the Ood. I mean. What. With the VOMITING UP A BRAIN. Yeah, awesome. (Tracey and I have started fake-vomiting up brains and offering them to each other. Because it's funny, okay?) But, in all seriousness - I liked what the did with the Ood, and I'm glad that they freed them once and for all. Of course, as The Fanboy Professor pointed out today, what are the lobotomized Ood supposed to do now? But - at least they aren't enslaved? I guess?

Anyway, good all-around fun, even if it left me just a wee bit queasy. (Seriously, Shows Not Eat To: ReGenesis and Doctor Who. I mean, there are tentacles coming out of mouths, huge man-eating brains, horrible injuries, and maggots. WHAT.)

Finally, MOVIE: The History Boys, aka Liz Finds Her Heaven.

Oh my God! I mean, I suspected that I would enjoy it, having heard it praised from all sides by all kinds of people I trust, but still. I really, really, really loved it. I loved everything about it. I loved the dynamic between the students, between the teachers, between the students AND the teachers - everything. I loved that nobody was perfect, but nobody was out-right evil or bad. People were flawed in their own ways; they erred, but they later somehow, one way or another, mended their ways, be it through act or thought or acceptance. If that makes sense.

I thought that Posner was wonderful - just the right amount of "bait" in him, yet young enough that Hector didn't take it, and young enough to be both learned in some ways, and entirely naive in others. He was just on the cusp of discovering himself and the world - and that aspect of him reminded me of Jim Mack (which is never a bad thing, of course.) As Tracey said, he was incredibly self-aware, which we both really liked. He was very grounding, and yet he was an inspiration.

(My favorite student was actually Scripps (that's his name, right? The religious one?). There was something unspoken and fascinating about him. He was never in the THICK of things, but he was aware of everything going on around him. I really wanted to know more about him after it was all over and done with.)

I loved, loved, loved the commentary on Britain's education system - truth vs. lies, happiness vs. prestige, and how it's all inter-related and completely separate at the same time. How none of the professors involved had actually attended Oxbridge, and all the prevarications involved in talking about it.

I adored Hector, with all his (quite major, in a way) flaws. I loved his love of literature, the erratic yet wide and all-encompassing education he gave the boys. The scene where he and Posner sit and discuss a poem was so beautifully done, and Richard Griffiths was incredible. That's the kind of acting that people don't have time for anymore, it seems. (If that makes sense at all.) It was such a crafted, flawless, AMAZING performance. I don't know. I know I'm mostly gushing and not really dicussing, but just - he was AMAZING.

I also really really loved the actor who played Irwin. I thought he was just right in both his confidence in his mind and his insistence that things be done a certain way, and complete and utter loss about real life events. The scene between him and Dakin towards the end was breathless. It just felt so real and unscripted (well, Dakin had definitely scripted his part beforehand ♥) and - GAH, I don't know. I'm not expressing myself well, but just - wow, wow, wow. So much wow.

What else, what else. I LOVED Frances de la Tour, I thought she was magnificent. Like, everything about her was magnificent and perfectly understated and just. Augh. All the scenes between her and Richard Griffiths were a joy to watch. THIS is what acting is all about, right there.

It was very clearly a play, and as soon as you accepted the fact that you weren't in it for the plot but for the speeches and the characters, it became a joy to watch. I don't know - it was like I could sit back and enjoy and it was wonderful.

The writing - oh my GOD, the WRITING. I want to live in it, if that makes sense. I want to read the play, and I want to re-watch the film, and just swim in them for a while.

UHM. I think I'm done gushing? I can't think of everything that I loved, because that's kind of filed under "everything" so I'll just say, WOW YAY WHEEEEEEE. ♥

Work is currently fine, if slightly stupid (in that way where adults who have worked here for years and years and years have no idea how schedules work and it takes an admin to herd them all to a proper room even though they have - have I mentioned this yet? - done this for years and years and years. For some reason, things still take them by surprise each and every time.) but mostly, it's quiet and a little dull, so: come! Discuss things with me! Tell me your thoughts on all or any of these things!

Also, it's beautiful outside, I had a fun sleepover last night, it's Tuesday, my boss is out, and I've done the most pressing things I had to do today. Yay.

You think you're far behind on ReGenesis? I haven't even finished season 3, yo. :P I'm almost afraid to, with what I've heard of season 4 and poor Bob. I LOVE BOB. *sob*

SGA is yeah, wtf last season. But who can resist Teyla's heaving bosom? Tis the wonders of pregnancy and, if she chooses to, breastfeeding... it gives FANTASTIC breasts. Alas, it's only temporary. :(

There is also nothing bad about The History Boys. Not a single darn thing. I gush too, it's okay.

HISTORY BOYS. ♥ ♥ ♥ I only saw that a short time ago, but holy crap, I love it SO HARD.

Scripps was my favorite, by far (and not just because I want to make out with him for a while), and I have a huge crush on Russell Tovey (Rudge, aka the jock). I wish I had been able to see this show live on stage, with this cast. The movie will have to do. *plans to watch again*

Really hardcore South African TB? Does it stomp on the remains of a cell after it's killed it? ;)

I need to start catching up on Doctor Who though - Catherine Tate does have spectacular cleavage, err, I've been putting Doctor Who off for a really long time.

[identity profile] soupytwist.livejournal.com 2008-04-22 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Man, I need to catch up on ReGenesis. Also finally watch The History Boys. OMG.

But right now I am very sad because whenever I click on the link to download the last Dr Who (a.k.a Donna's Amazing Breasts, which I like to think is the subtitle of this season( it CLOSES MY FUCKING BROWSER AND I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY.

Plus side, I have just recently started re-watching Horatio Hornblower, and it made me realise that the last time I saw it was with YOU! So, smishes and icon in rememberance. :)

I am guessing you are not around for chattage?

And the sunshine is just supposed to keep on Going! This totally makes up for December! Yay for a really good weekend!

[identity profile] othergoose.livejournal.com 2008-04-22 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I've seen The History boys more times than could possibly healthy. But that's OK! Because it's brilliant. Whenever I play Posner's "Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered," my mother just sighs and says, "Ohhh, the little blonde boy...it was a pity he was gay..." She is hopeless :)

There was a BBC radio drama version of it as well that, which I'm pretty sure is nearly identical to the original play. It's a different experience and you miss out on the action that's happening on stage/screen, but it's wonderful all the same :) Plus, Scripps features in it a lot more (he provides much of the narration), and that's always a good thing. He's my favorite character, followed closely by dear Rudge :) You may be able to find it floating around the internet if you look hard enough--I seem to remember downloading it at one point from [livejournal.com profile] history_boys.

The History Boys was a wonderful film! One of those film I will love rewatching.

[identity profile] brooklinegirl.livejournal.com 2008-04-22 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
...you understood the History Boys much more than I did. I really need to see it again. I am very pretty.

YAY for our shows! and our WEEKEND. and catching up on stuff. David Hewlett WAS awesome - he was just different enough to show, and I kind of adore that. I am SO pleased we are caught up and I cannot wait for next season.

ReGenesis pretty much dropped the ball on ALL the potential fucking except for Carlos. wtf, canada? At least give us SEX with our trauma.

*vomits up a brain and hands it to you*

[identity profile] solar-cat.livejournal.com 2008-04-23 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
Teyla's breasts are truly a thing of beauty. 'Tis true. *wipes away single tear*

[identity profile] shihadchick.livejournal.com 2008-04-23 06:24 am (UTC)(link)
I am mostly just commenting to go YAY! HISTORY BOYS! Isn't it wonderful?? Chris and I saw it at the movies... um, whenever it was out here, and just- yes, exactly what you said. So good.

[identity profile] mrsronweasley.livejournal.com 2008-04-24 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
YAY! It IS, it really, really is! I loved it SO HARD. I'm so, so glad you've seen it and appreciated it! *looooove*

[identity profile] mrsronweasley.livejournal.com 2008-04-24 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
They really, really are. And? So is her ass. *points at icon*

[identity profile] mrsronweasley.livejournal.com 2008-04-24 04:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Heee! You were kind of really sleepy for most of it. (I think this actually makes you Sleeping Beauty, in fact! *kisses you awake*) It was so woooooonderful. *wants to watch it again*

YAY! I kind of really want our weekend back. But I am THRILLED we're almost all caught up on our shows!

And you're totally right. We haven't seen David's ass ONCE this season. We've seen more of WES than David, in that respect. WTF, show? Get with the program! (I would really, really like some sex with the trauma.)

Yay! *reciprocates*

[identity profile] mrsronweasley.livejournal.com 2008-04-24 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I know! It's one of those that I would really, really like to rewatch! Yay!

[identity profile] mrsronweasley.livejournal.com 2008-04-24 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii back. ;)

[identity profile] mrsronweasley.livejournal.com 2008-04-24 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
(Yay! New comm! YAY! Thank you!)

It is, it's absolutely brilliant!

She is hopeless :)

But kind of cute!

And yeah, I want to read the actual play and see the differences. I'm SO glad to hear that Scripps is a bigger character in that. And it's funny that he provides much of the narration, because that's how I perceived him in the movie, anyway - that he's kind of the narrative undercurrent, following the events without getting too involved, if that makes sense.) I'm so glad I'm not the only one who loved him. :D And Rudge! Oh, Rudge, I loved him, too!

Thaaaaaaaaaaaank you, yay!

[identity profile] mrsronweasley.livejournal.com 2008-04-24 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
YES! It's beauuuuuuuuuuuutiful out there! Yay!

your iiiiiiiiicon!

[identity profile] mrsronweasley.livejournal.com 2008-04-24 05:06 pm (UTC)(link)
You really, really do. BOTH OF THESE THINGS. *nods* *nudges you*

I hope the link worked, finally, and you got to see the Oooooood! ♥

(Oh, man, that was so, so wonderful. I want it back! *clings hard*)

[identity profile] mrsronweasley.livejournal.com 2008-04-24 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
You bet your ASS. *g*

She relaly, really does. It's really, really worth it. :D

[identity profile] mrsronweasley.livejournal.com 2008-04-24 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
YAY for History Boys love! ♥ ♥ ♥

And also YAY for Scripps love! And Rudge! (Who was also SO CUTE in the Christmas Special!) Man, I so wish I could have seen the stage production, as well, but hey, the movie is WONDERFUL, so - I'll settle. *g*

[identity profile] mrsronweasley.livejournal.com 2008-04-24 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUDE. You should watch Season 3 - I mean, yes. Bob WILL break your heart, without a doubt, but STILL! So good!

And I did enjoy SGA this season? But just not as much as I used to. I don't know! But Teyla's bosoms were SPECTACULAR. Seriously.

And YES. Exactly. Just. It's STUNNING.

[identity profile] solar-cat.livejournal.com 2008-04-24 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahh, yes, I see, I see. Though, I may have to do more research on the subject in order to be really sure... >.>

XDDD

[identity profile] shihadchick.livejournal.com 2008-04-24 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
*grins* I'm pretty sure we came out of it all "oh man, Liz has to see this!" and then forgot to say, but yes. SO good. *beams*
