Harry Potter & The Adaptation of AWESOME
OH MY GOD, YOU GUYS, HOW AWESOME WAS THAT MOVIE?
SO AWESOME. LET'S GO SEE IT AGAIN. WHO'S WITH ME?
O______________________O
I have never been a huge fan of the adaptations. I thought 1 and 2 sucked MAJOR ass, and 3 was all RIGHT, but when you're dealing with an adaptation of your FAVORITE book, no matter how hard they try, they will always fail. (Plus, that was the worst werewolf CGI ever. What the fuck was that? HE WAS NOT A WOLF. GIVE ME A WOLF. Also, I am one of those annoying people who was never a dan of David Thewlis cast in this particular role. And it is the role of my heart. ♥_____;)
ANYWAY. I've only seen GoF twice, I think, and - it was fine! Totally cool! But IDK.
OotP was my favorite when it came out - it condensed a hugely flawed (obviously, imo) book into a gorgeous and gripping and atmospheric film that cut through all the crap I hated in the book. I was THRILLLLED that David Yates stayed on for the rest of them, and he's REALLY not disappointed me. (I loved the sixth movie, too, but I have only seen it once. I should really own that shit and re-watch it. Hmmmm.)
SO, THIS MOVIE, HUH. *________________________*
THIS IS WHERE I AM GOING TO GO IN AND OUT OF CAPSLOCK.
ZOMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG. How happy am I they split the book into two parts? OH MAN OH MAN. They have NEVER taken such great care with building the tension and really taking the time to show the journeys these characters are on. The beginning was simply GENIUS: where the trio all are and how they're dealing with what's ahead of them, which they know is TERRIFYING and uncertain and HORRIBLE, for sure.
(Hermione obliviating her parents - God, that killed me. Way to tug those heartstrings like a CHAMP, Emma Watson. I am SO impressed, and I've never been a huge fan of hers. (Her eyebrows used to do the bulk of her acting for her. /o\) But just. Her walking out of her house, with not even a single bag, heading down the street. What a gorgeous image. <3<3<3)
The scene with the seven Potters was GENIUS. Man, I fucking love those twins. (AND HELLO, BILL WEASLEY. HOW ARE YOU DOING. O.O He was a lot younger than I pictured Bill being by that point in the story, but I AM NOT COMPLAINING.) It brought the necessary lols before the first bloodbath. /o\
HEDWIG. DDDDDDDD:
MAD-EYE. DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD;
The fight scenes were just as tense and horrible and terrifying as they should have been.
UHM WHAT ELSE WHAT ELSE. I DON'T KNOW. I JUST. IT WAS REALLY FUCKING AMAZING, YOU GUYS.
Luna will ALWAYS be my favorite, like. FOREVER. I love that girl SO MUCH, she is PERFECT. Her line about Harry being too polite to say he doesn't want to be talking to them was SPOT ON. She gets that THING of Luna's, where she's able to go straight to the heart of the matter without much hurt, SO WELL. Oh man. Plus, cute as a BUTTON. ♥
The way they told the story of the Deathly Hallows was STUNNING. Holy shit, I did not expect that from the movie at ALL. I don't mean that in a BAD way, but there was so much originality and gorgeous animation in there, I was just STUNNED. I would watch a full-length feature in that style, it blew me away. My face was like *_____________________* the entire time.
*_________________________*
The infiltration of the Ministry! OMG! First of all, I love the actress who played "Hermione" so I was thrilled to see her. And the actor who played Rancor (sp?) got Daniel Radcliffe's weird little walk down PAT, oh my God, I was DYING. That whole scene was incredibly well-done and I was tense THE ENTIRE TIME. I actually couldn't remember exactly how it all ended up, because it's been a while since I reread the books, but MAN OH MAN, I was on the edge of my seat and watching through my fingers.
OMG, Ron's arm getting splinched. DDDDDDDDDDD: I'm so glad they didn't shy away from the horror of all of it, and that was pretty brutal. (Like George's ear. ;_____;) Yikes. Again, another scene that Emma Watson fucking NAILED. WAY TO GO, GIRL.
I loved all the little trio moments, like them getting reunited in the beginning, and then AFTER the battle in the sky, Harry pouncing on them both. ♥__________♥
Ron's slow breakdown was HEARTBREAKING to watch, and I remember just wanting to GET THROUGH IT. JUST GET THROUGH IT. Ugh ugh ugh.
They dealt with the whole "wandering around the forest" bit really well, and changed it up enough that it was never dull like it kind of had been in the book. Really, it was just so COOL the way the movie built and built and built, but never DRAGGED. The pacing was super well-done.
OMG, I couldn't watch the super-awkward dancing scene, it was so mottsy, but the part where Ron comes back and gives Hermione his speech? It was a LITTLE cheesy, but it WORKED, especially after they had Harry make a tiny joke about it. It brought it down to a human level, I thought.
(BUT, omg, the Horcrux-destroying scene was SO AWESOME. AND TERRIFYING. AND AWESOME. And
drlense is TOTALLY right: they got Hermione down JUST as they should have, "more beautiful and more terrible" than she is in life, and OH POOR RON. The nekkid make-outs were RACY, yo, and looked like fanart, which was hilarious. STILL NOT AS MOTTSY AS THE DANCING, THOUGH, I HATE TO SAY. I actually enjoyed the racy nekkid make-outs.)
WHAT ELSEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
OH, ALAN RICKMAN. Man, NOT enough Snape in this movie, but he was SO amazing. The scene with Voldemort killing the Muggles Studies teacher was horrifying and Snape's FACE, you guys. ;______; Talk about between a rock and a hard place, that dude got NO break.
Tom Felton was awesome, as always, and really managed to convey his own "rock and a hard place" with very few lines. Still can't get past the fact that he looks like Eminem, but the scene between him and disfigured Harry was crackling with tension. I'm sure all the Draco/Harry people were happy. :D
UHM UHM UHM
DOBBY. Yeah, I totally cried, I'm not even gonna lie. ;___________; He was awesome and hilarious and everything he should have been. DOBBY. ;_______________;
Just. I don't KNOW. It was AMAZING. I want to watch it all over again, this time with less tension about WHEN IS IT GOING TO END, because I spent legit, like, an HOUR of the whole thing worrying the next scene was going to be the last. I had no idea where it would end! Would it be when Ron left? No. When Ron came BACK? No. WHEN??? DDDDDDDDDDD: So I'd like to go in appreciating exactly how much they crammed into this movie. ♥
God, I have SO MANY FEELINGS ABOUT SO MANY THINGS. I JUST CAN'T REMEMBER ALL OF THEM.
Oh! NEVILLE. THAT'S OUR BOY. Oh God, I clutched my heart a little bit. YOU TELL THEM, BABY. RAWR!
The snatcher scene was SO TENSE OMG. AND SCARY. And Bellatrix torturing Hermione BROKE MY HEART INTO A MILLION PIECES. YOU LEAVE HER ALONE! DDDDDDDDDDDD:
Also also also, OMG GODRIC'S HOLLOW. NAGINI. HOLY SHIT, I THINK I SCREAMED LIKE A LITTLE GIRL. AUGH AUGH AUGH HORRIBLE. And I had somehow totally forgotten that Harry lost his wand that night, and was properly horrified all over again. It was just. SO AWESOME.
Fleur's wedding dress perplexed me. But that may just have been me.
Hermione is my hero.
RON. ♥
OMG, the doe Patronus. AUGH SNAPE AUGH! ;_________;
IDK THERE WERE MANY THINGS THAT HAPPENED. I WOULD LIKE TO WATCH THEM HAPPEN ALL OVER AGAIN.
Is the end of my thoughts for now. I THINK.
We went to see it at 8am today with
drlense, and I sat in the middle and clutched both T &
drlense a LOT. There was a LOT OF CLUTCHING. And FLAILING. And HITTING. I JUST. I WANT THE NEXT MOVIE, LIKE, YESTERDAY. *_______________*
Hi. Talk to me about this, you guys. *___________________*

Hi. Talk to me about this, you guys. *___________________*

The way they told the story of the Deathly Hallows was STUNNING
Stunning barely sums up how breathtakingly STUNNING that animation was. Seriously GORGEOUS. We are still talking about it today and will be for weeks. I can't wait to get some stills and screen caps. The invisibility cloak? BRILLIANT.
Honestly, my favorite part of the entire movie was Ron's breakdown. Way to go Rupert. I mean, guh. I was torn between having my heart ripped out of my chest and wanting to climb him like a TREE. It just keeps playing over and over again in my mind's eye.
Yay\o/

Yes. Rupert did an amazing job, I am SO impressed with him. ♥
ALL OF THE YAY!

It actually ended right where I had expected/hoped it would since we first heard it would be 2 parts! Oh man, all three of the trio actors have come SO FAR. They were all brilliant here. And while I would have liked more other people, the book was largely about just them, and I'm glad the movie stuck to that. But that it also kept the pace better than the book. And OMG THE DEATHLY HALLOWS ANIMATION GIMME MORE. SO INCREDIBLE. *___________*
Yeah, I pretty much loved it! And I want moooore. I'm sure I'll be seeing this one again!
Also, for the first time in years, I'm sad that I don't have any HP icons left. I suppose Gerard looking a bit like Harry Potter will have to do. :)
no subject
See, I actually forgot about some of the plot stuff, so I was TENSE. But good call! And the trio were BRILLIANT. Definitely grew into fine actors, ALL of them. ♥ Yeah, David Yates appears to have a really good eye/ear/something for pacing, because it moved right along, but didn't skip over important ~~~emotional stuff, either. SO MUCH LOVE.
Oh yeah. I'm READY. CAN I GO NOW? HOW ABOUT NOW? O____________O
Ahahaha, ditto. But, awwww! Gerard!
no subject
I JUST.
THAT WAS AMAZING. I had
seriously, when a movie has me tearing up in the first minute and a half? WIN. &hermione; &team; ♥___________________♥
and the ANIMATION. holy CRAP.
no subject
OMFG, I could NOT stop flailing and flapping my hands. Sarah and I were, just, like, giving each other crazy eyes over the whole thing.
AUGH SO MUCH LOVE. ♥
And YESSSSSSSSSSSSS. Hearts in my EYES.

all of the EVERYTHING, augh, it was just SUCH a great adaptation of a book that could have ended up being kind of boring onscreen. ♥_____________♥
no subject
YES! Man, I am SUCH A FAN OF THIS YATES DUDE. :D

THERE WAS A LOT OF CAMPING AND WAITING IN THE BOOK.
WAITING AND CAMPING.
CAMPING AND WAITING.
and yet somehow the movie was BEYOND GREAT.

IT'S A REALLY SCARY MOVIE, JAI.

I completely agree with pretty much everything you say. You speak the truth!
I haven't read 7 since it came out so most of the movie was a surprise for me. And yes, the *intense eye contact* of Harry & Draco was awesome. Damn, all these actors just rocked every part! The emotional conflicts, and the humor, and George's bad joke (MY TWINSES!), and Hermione saving the day over and over, and the horcrux breaking the trio down, and DOBBY! AND HEDWIG! And meeting Bill (yeah, the dress was eh).
The Three Brothers animation was completely stunning, I would see the whole movie again just for that part, but really, I just want to see it again!
no subject
And I actually re-read the last 2 books a couple of years ago, so I was PRIMED for this, but not SO primed that I'd be annoyed at the stuff they left out. AND IT WAS SO AWESOME OMGGGGGGGGGGGG. *FLAPS*
Right? That might have been my favorite part. Like, it took me a while to get my jaw up off the floor. *_____________*

i came out of it feeling pretty up and wanting to see it again, which is better than some of the others where i was a bit ragey.

OMG, you're totally right, it was SO badass, and SO awesome and just. IS IT JULY YET? IT IS??

This morning I realized she reminds me SO much of the pics I've seen of Tracey on your LJ. :) Like they could be sisters or something. :D I wish I'd taken a pic of all of us. LOL

Dude, I screamed like on every scene. I'm surprised I wasn't KICKED OUT XD and I also cried through out the whole thing and held on to my twin sister when George's ear was cursed off (especially with Hermione's part *tears up*) and then Ron's beautiful speech to Hermione! And then, thennn... Omg Dumbledore! RIP!
I cried two hours after the movie and needed to go to a pet-land to look at puppies so that I could cheer up! I'm such a nerd.
no subject
Oh man, that's awesome. I love when others in the theater are just as emotionally invested as I am!
I also cried through out the whole thing and held on to my twin sister when George's ear was cursed off
AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW! ;________;
AWWWW SO GOOOOOOOOOOOOD!
no subject
"Just keep saying the bit about the ball of light through your heart again, and you should be fine" LOLOL
And George being a creeper watching Ginny and Dan kiss! And Dan in Fleur's bra! And YES, the man in the ministry doing Dan's funny walk! <3333 One of the things I love about the movies (except 1 and 2, I LIKE TO FORGET THOSE HAPPENED) is how they balance the darkness with that kind of self-deprecating humour, which I thought was at its height in the 3rd movie (but I also have a big boner for Alfonso, and David, although YES THE WEREWOLF CGI BLEW) and includes some of my favourite HP moments like in HBP Slughorn's FACE WHAT IS HIS ACTUAL FACE LOL and Ron: "The sorting hat told us to be brave in these troubled times... easy for it to say, it's a hat, innit?!?" ALL OF THE HEARTS. IN MY EYES.
I can't believe how OT3 this movie was! MAN oh MAN. UNF UNF I want all the angsty OT3 in a forest fic RIGHT NOW and I have no idea where to find it :(
HERMIONE WITH HER PARENTS OH MY GODDDDD. I think some of those childhood photos were actually emma watson too, just. ;________;
I CRIED WHEN DOBBY DIED TOO! I had totally forgotten that happened, SO FUCKING SAD. And Hedwig! Man, so much DYING. The settings in this movie was SO BEAUTIFUL, from the forests to the sand dunes. UNF UNF NATURE
The deathly hallows tale was SO BEAUTIFUL, you are very right. I was so impressed.
In other news: Dan gets shirtless at LEAST twice, and I find it hard to be attracted to him when he has those glasses on and that haircut, but Ron gets shirtless only once and it's because he's all splinched. UNFAIR. LAST MOVIE, I AM LOOKING AT YOU TO PICK UP THIS SLACK.
OT3333333333333
:DDDDDDDDDDDDDD
Are you gonna see it again? I am SO READY TO SEE IT AGAIN. And then have it on my computer so I can re-watch it all the time.
no subject
Georgeo watching them kiss was HILARIOUS! With the spoon in his ear? jasjdasdja *DYINGG* And and and basically YES, EVERYTHING YOU SAID. I JUST. I WANT TO SEE IT AGAIN AND AGAIN. A LOT.
And I LOVE Alfonso Cuaron, and was THRILLED when he signed on (take THAT, Chris Columbus!) but IDK, the movie just didn't live up to my unholy love of the book. But I'm willing to concede that being my own personal prejudice. :D
And the OT3 was off the CHARTS, it REALLY was! ALL OF THE HUGGING. OH MY GOD. ♥__________;
And LOLOLOL I HOPE PART 2 BRINGS ALL THE NAKED RUPERT YOU WANT! \o/\o/\o/

I was really worried that there was going to be more cheesiness than I could handle, but they never went overboard, and Harry's life is BRUTAL which in the book, is okay but in the movie could have been laughable but it WASN'T.
There isn't ANYTHING about Ron Weasley that isn't amazing. The end.
no subject
It was just SO FUCKING GOOD, and you're totally right - they didn't cheese out when they could have, they kept it tight and real and TRAGIC, and just. AUGH. SO GOOD.
no subject
The other thing that creeped me the fuck out? The Nazi parallels, which of course has always been there in the Yates movies, but they were completely blatant here. The sculpture, the uniforms of the Ministry police, the wife of the guy Ron turned into at the Ministry, all could have been right out of 1930s Germany, and the books they were making outside of Umbridge's office - um, wow.
no subject
Also, I loved seeing that they went the way they did with Draco, because I always felt that that was likely how he felt/what was going on, but the books just didn't dive into it much and so many people said I was wrong, so I was happy to see that on screen.
I hope this makes any sense COLD MEDICINE MAKES ME A LITTLE LOOPY.
