Fucking hell.

I've only heard about this through various friends, and not seen the actual wank, but I just saw what happened after [livejournal.com profile] arabe1la posted about incest on her LJ. What the fuck, man? What the HELL happened to everybody?!

WHO THE FUCK WOULD HONESTLY DEFEND INCEST and NOT expect to have the backlash of those who don't agree with them?! If you're going to write incest, expect fucking consequences!

What the hell is WRONG with those people?! And what the hell is wrong with Arabella pointing out her own point of view on HER OWN LIVEJOURNAL?!

Oh, and my favorite bit: making "incest" synonymous with "slash" and, of COURSE, just because Arabella doesn't like incest she MUST be a HOMOPHOBE, because those people know her SO goddamn well! That's logic there, my friends. Really. Wonderful, wonderful show of those with brains and those without.

Fucking hell. I'm so glad I was away when all this happened. At least I got a break from all the bullshit. I'm sorry for those who got hurt, and I am DEFINITELY sorry that Arabella decided to delete her journal. Fucking wankers. Jesus.

To add more crap: I came home to a fucked-up Word. It now won't open ANY files, and won't open at ALL, and yes, I had a fic on there. Fantastic. *sigh* Dammit all to hell.

Ok, had to vent. Off to write more on WordPad. At least that opened. Grrrr.

People who value their right to Free Speech more than anything else? People who jump to conclusions, and who confuse arguing with insulting, just as they confuse harmful activity with natural sexual tendencies? People who think that you agree with everybody who friended you, even if you never friended them BAX?

[livejournal.com profile] arabe1la should have gone friends-only.

[identity profile] mrsronweasley.livejournal.com 2004-01-21 07:45 am (UTC)(link)
She should have.

I heard that you got a lot of wank, as well, and that just sucks. I'm so sorry. People...well, people suck. They don't realize what the freedom of speech means, first of all, and, well, as for jumping to conclusions, I'm not surprised. It is the easiest thing to do, after all.

*hugs*

[identity profile] perceval.livejournal.com 2004-01-21 08:07 am (UTC)(link)
well, not all of them do. if you go to the entry in question, you'll see that there's a lot of good discussion, like with [livejournal.com profile] violaswamp, [livejournal.com profile] ivyblossom, [livejournal.com profile] acemyth or [livejournal.com profile] guttaperk. The main "troublemakers" did not respond to my responses to their comments, and acted straight from their hurt and hate. There are some very interesting points in their comments, but in the end, they are very good examples for what I'm saying in that entry: revelling in negativity and glorifying harm and abuse may well harm you and others who are exposed to it.

Glad you enjoyed Ireland! You needed that, didn't you?

[identity profile] mrsronweasley.livejournal.com 2004-01-21 08:11 am (UTC)(link)
Basically, the comments in your post just supported what you'd said in the first place, even if they had intended the opposite effect? Heh. You outwit them all! I'll have to look at the discussions a bit more on that post of yours. See what people who actually took the time to think posted...

And yes, I needed it so much. It's just...over. So quickly. *sigh* Thank you, by the way!

[identity profile] perceval.livejournal.com 2004-01-21 08:27 am (UTC)(link)
unwittingly, my dear. unwittingly.

:D

and yes, everybody should have their Ireland. Anything else would just not be fair!

[identity profile] meamcat.livejournal.com 2004-01-21 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
You got wanked? Christ, and I wasn't here to defend you? I hate fandom drama.

[identity profile] soupytwist.livejournal.com 2004-01-21 07:41 am (UTC)(link)
Eugh, I know. It's such a crock of SHIT, man.

*many, many, many, many hugs for you*

And *turns to Liz's Word* - YOU. WORK. NOW. WE NEED LIZFIC. (only not, um, fic about Liz, because as much as I love and adore her, that would be creepy. heh.)

[identity profile] mrsronweasley.livejournal.com 2004-01-21 07:47 am (UTC)(link)
It WAS a crock of shit. *sigh*

I hug you back! But your boobs get in the way again!

Wait, that's not a bad thing... Ahem.

And yes, Word is completely fucked up. My dad promised to take a look at it later, but the worst thing is that I think the files are all corrupted, as well. Thank GOD I send a bit of fic to Ni, I'll have to ask her to send it to me again. Argh, man.

And as for Liz!fic. Um. Ew.

[identity profile] croupier.livejournal.com 2004-01-21 07:58 am (UTC)(link)
What the shit happened? Somebody recap, I've been too busy listening to Roy Orbison in a weepy stupor to pay attention to shit. (And I was wondering why Arabella deleted her LJ--if there's somebody's ass I need to kick, that can and will be arranged.)

Yay Le Tigre.

(Word PAD--it's an omen, Liz! Run with it!)

[identity profile] mrsronweasley.livejournal.com 2004-01-21 08:00 am (UTC)(link)
Ok, what the hell is going on? Why the weepy stupor? Why Roy Orbison? Tell meeeee, I need to pet you. And yay Le Tigre, indeed.

You need to kick the ass of all those who decided that Arabella was a fascist because she didn't like incest and felt it was wrong to write about for titillation's sake, as well as in the HP fandom. Go, go, go!

Ok, and you're just sick. Just thought I'd let you know.

[identity profile] croupier.livejournal.com 2004-01-21 08:22 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, like Roy Orbison doesn't put YOU into a weepy stupor. Don't even front. You hear the first five bars of "Crying" and you're bawling like a preschooler. You know it. I'm just freaking out about law school applications and realizing that now is not the best time for some endeavors I had set forth. Like quitting smoking. Like doing anything that doesn't consist of...hang on, I need to put "In Dreams" on again. Okay, what was the question?

And *everybody* wants to pet me. *preens* But you can go ahead.

[identity profile] prettyannamoon.livejournal.com 2004-01-21 08:03 am (UTC)(link)
And it took them like a month to find it. I remember the original post, before I left. I read it, nodded ("WORD"), and continued on. It was an opinion (not to mention a SANE one, which is a freaxing miracle in this fandom), and it was posted on her own LJ. WTF?

Anyone who thinks Arabella is homophobic has obviously missed out on some very good slash. Poor dears.

Hope Word starts working. :( And welcome back!

[identity profile] mrsronweasley.livejournal.com 2004-01-21 08:06 am (UTC)(link)
And it took them like a month to find it.

Exactly! I remember it, too, and was going to answer, but I was going through finals at that point, so didn't. Now I regret it. It was a well thought-out and SANE post, and suddenly, the wank attack. What the fuck ever, man. Ugh.

And I was thinking the same thing! "Hello, have you read "Absolution"?" At least we have. That's what counts, really. *g*

Thanks! It better. Grrrr.

[identity profile] pinkfinity.livejournal.com 2004-01-22 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
It's pretty clear they found it because she was listed as one of the BNFs in [livejournal.com profile] hpbnfdm_lives, which caused a lot of people who weren't familiar with her to go to her LJ, and that was the first thing they read.

[identity profile] skels.livejournal.com 2004-01-21 08:06 am (UTC)(link)
[From a Cara in a rather odd mood:]

I love you :P
Come back to England.
Please?
He he

[identity profile] mrsronweasley.livejournal.com 2004-01-21 08:09 am (UTC)(link)
[From Liz back to Cara]

I love you, too!
I want to. Wah.
Wah!
:-P

[identity profile] skels.livejournal.com 2004-01-21 08:11 am (UTC)(link)
*Mwah*

I agree with you by the way. Not that I know particularly whats going on.

I hope people realize that civil liberties are going down the tubes when I become King. You'll get what rights I think I can trust you with, not a single one more. ;)

Welcome bax, and glad to hear you had a lovely time overseas.

[identity profile] mayatawi.livejournal.com 2004-01-21 09:08 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, were people actually defending incest-full-stop? I thought it was just about incest-fic, which like all fic (IMO) is harmless. I take exception to the idea that there are things people "shouldn't" write about-- for titillation or anything else-- especially when the argument is that some poor (deluded) children might think Incest Is Good Because Some Ficcer Has A Bizarre Kink Harry Potter Does It (which seemed to be her argument-- correct me if I'm wrong, because I'm hazy on the whole thing). Because anyone who's that impressionable has no business being on the internet unsupervised.

'Course, I wasn't involved at all, and didn't give a damn until fandom_scruples appeared on the scene, at which point I was pointing and laughing along with the rest. Didn't read the post in question, didn't read the comments, though frankly it doesn't surprise me-- there are jackasses that cry "homophobe" at the drop of a hat. Such a good insult. "Homophobe" is the new "fag"!

Really, she was entitled to rant about whatever she wanted, but like I said-- I don't like the implication that people "shouldn't" write... whatever. Pick a subject. Especially if it's for the Sake of the Children.

[identity profile] themorningstarr.livejournal.com 2004-01-21 09:15 am (UTC)(link)
Really, she was entitled to rant about whatever she wanted, but like I said-- I don't like the implication that people "shouldn't" write... whatever.

Not to drag it all up again, but since you said you hadn't read the post in question, I wanted to point out that A had said that all that is dark should be expressed, but it should be given its proper weight. (That's paraphrased.)

That's why I was shocked at all the backlash and wankery. She never said it shouldn't be written. Never.

But I suppose people overlook things when it's convenient for them. (Not you, but the wankers.)

[identity profile] mayatawi.livejournal.com 2004-01-21 09:26 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks for the clarification. And you know, I actually agree with that-- in the sense of writing good fiction, because a happy-fluffy-incest-fic just isn't good plotting.

That said, if people want to write fluffy incest just for the pretty visuals and don't care about having a realistic plot, then that's their prerogative. But then, it was Arabella's prerogative to rant about it, so there you go. And you're right-- people do tend to overlook pesky things like the facts (and hey, I do it too-- mostly through laziness though) when it gets in the way of a good flamewar.

[identity profile] mrsronweasley.livejournal.com 2004-01-21 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, [livejournal.com profile] themorningstarr explained it all really well.

That said, if people want to write fluffy incest just for the pretty visuals and don't care about having a realistic plot, then that's their prerogative.

But they also have to bear in mind that it carries certain responsibilities, no matter how much they may wish to avoid that. If you're going to write about an altogether serious topic - and whether or not we wish to see it or not, incest is just that - then you have to realize that it won't be all smooth-sailing. And Arabella had a right to say what she said without being called a fascist or a homophobe, because that was just not only stupid, but ill-informed. I mean...geez, she's got fic up at the Howl Kingdom. It's a slash site.

Ah, anyway... I can understand your point, and I hate censorship myself, but I also think that there needs to be some sort of self-censorship, not in terms of what what's good "for the children" but what's good in terms of literature, maybe. I'm not sure how to explain it... basically, people have to learn to take responsibility for their actions, and simply transferring it on somebody else and calling them a fascist is petty and ignorant.

Umm. Hope that made sense. I'm rather out of it...

[identity profile] themorningstarr.livejournal.com 2004-01-21 09:10 am (UTC)(link)
Welcome back, Liz! Ireland sounds lovely. Note to self: Go to Ireland.

Yes, the bloody wankers are asshats. Arabella a homophobe? BWAH. I must have been imagining the slash she has posted at THK. And Smut Week too... just a figment. Not real, apparently. *eye roll*

Because how does not liking Ron/Ginny make her a homophobe?

Seems to me a LOT of villages around the world are missing their idiots...

[identity profile] mrsronweasley.livejournal.com 2004-01-21 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Note to self: Go to Ireland.

Do. It's gorgeous!

I must have been imagining the slash she has posted at THK.

So must I, and it's a shame, seeing as how...it's my site! I need to look around there more often, eh? ;)

Ron/Ginny...oh dear God. Where do we even begin?

Seems to me a LOT of villages around the world are missing their idiots...

*hugs Liz* Welcome back! I'm glad you had a great time, and I hope your evil Word program is working now. :D

As for Arabella... amen. It infuriates me what happened to her, not to mention the idiocy that happened when people took her post and used it as the basis for their "blacklist." *sigh* Yeah, you missed a lot. But be glad.

[identity profile] mrsronweasley.livejournal.com 2004-01-21 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Evil Word is still not working. The computer's got a virus on it. Ugh. One bright moment: I'll be using a different one soon enough. ;)

I am glad I missed this. And the whole 'blacklist' thing - what are we, back to McCarthyism, or something? WTF? People confuse me...

[identity profile] stereo-m.livejournal.com 2004-01-21 02:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I read that whole thing too, and was pissed off. But in the middle of being pissed off, I read that 'A is a homophobe!' and... well, [livejournal.com profile] prettyannamoon said it - the poor dears have missed out on some very good slash. Oh yes.

And then... I.. couldn't stop snickering.

And I'm GLAD you're BACK! :D Missed yooooou. Got your postcard! :D :D

[identity profile] mrsronweasley.livejournal.com 2004-01-21 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
YOU! You! Are here! You! Missed you! *pounces*

I know, I can laugh at the fact that they thought A was a homophobe. Umm, hello? Yeah. Thought so.

I love you! I'm so glad you got the postcard! I'm so sorry it was so stupid! >.

[identity profile] sarka.livejournal.com 2004-01-21 03:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Good post. Very.

I sort of ended up in the middle of this and I found this all rather vastly amusing until the wank really picked up speed and people started getting hurt. I was very sad to see [livejournal.com profile] arabe1la go. I was also very angry at the treatment of percival.

It's good to see you enjoyed Ireland. If your Ireland is like my Prague, well, I can imagine it must've been pretty amazing :)

[identity profile] mrsronweasley.livejournal.com 2004-01-21 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm really angry at how people got treated, as well. Ugh. It might have been funny, had the people who did the wanking had any sort of sense of humor. But they didn't. It's all just...yeah. Anyway.

And yes, I think my Ireland - as well as the UK - are like your Prague, so I feel your pain. I really do. *hugs*

[identity profile] meamcat.livejournal.com 2004-01-21 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
That sucks.
I mean, the whole point of a Livejournal is to vent your feelings. If people don't like it, well, screw them, but they have no right to completely stereotype someone just based on their general ideas! God, I hate crap like this. No wonder Arabella stopped writing on Livejournal.
