SGA, 3x15, first five minutes.

OMFG, are they KIDDING ME? Are they TRYING to write fanfic?

"Their" game? THEIR GAME? The game they've been playing for YEARS, at NIGHT, between MISSIONS?

Are they FUCKING KIDDING ME?!

*DIES*

Oh God. Oh my God. I...will be back. Um. With. Uhm.

I KNOW. I KNOW, I KNOW, I KNOW.

(for the record, that moment was a large part of why I said YES DEAR GOD YES to your question about the episode, this morning. because, I mean, you can try to read it like they're straight? but I don't know - it's just not working for me, man.)

OH MY GOD, he just GRABBED RODNEY BY THE VEST. Like...like...CASUAL TOUCHING! Comfortable, casual, this-is-no-big-deal touching! "Come on, already!" spoken with affection, instead of annoyance! JESUS CHRIST!

*keeps watching*

which is especially neat when you remember that, hi, this is John Sheppard, the guy who has next-to-no backstory, all of it depressing as fuck, a documented dislike of being touched, exactly four living friends in the entire galaxy, and no lasting romantic connections onscreen (excluding Rodney, obviously). Him + casual touching? = !!!!!!!

*polishes slash goggles*

have I yet subjected you to my meditations on how very extremely gay john sheppard is?

[identity profile] mrsronweasley.livejournal.com 2006-12-20 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, dude, you do NOT need to convince me of this. I am ALL CONVINCED. But feel free to preach to the choir, anyway. ;)

Seriously. SERIOUSLY. ALL OF IT. He just...grabbed him! Like, come on, babe, up and at 'em, let's get moving.

CHESS! They played CHESS! Because they have to play SOMETHING together, so they! Played! Chess!

In a total homage to "War Games", by the way, which made me SOOOO happy. GOD.

I LOVE THIS SHOW.

well, I'll skimp on the convincing, then. Basically, I pimped my flatmate into SGA (by showing her vids as bribes to write her finals! she's from book-based fandoms, primarily, so she'd never really seen a vid before; it was kind of a big deal. Then, once she was done with the paper, we sat down and watched the first 10 episodes of season one! and thus, a fangirl is born...), and in rewatching season one with her, I realized:

John Sheppard has no sexual chemistry with women. Ever. And, I mean, there are quite clearly places where he's supposed to have sexual chemistry with women? but it never takes; you never get (or I never get) the sense that he's at all interested in them as anything other than, you know, people. It doesn't matter whether or not you think he has sexual chemistry with Rodney McKay; there's just not any way to read John Sheppard as attracted to women. I mean, they put him with Teyla. Come on, people.

And, yes: I loved this episode more than words can express. Apparently some people didn't? I've seen some grumbling on the old f'list, anyway - but, honestly? I LOVE MY BIG GAY SPACE SHOW, HI.

[identity profile] mrsronweasley.livejournal.com 2006-12-20 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
He has no chemistry with women at ALL. The closest they get is Teyla, and only when they're sparring MAYBE. Actually, it's more like...it's really really hot to watch. But. It doesn't go anywhere. He has more chemistry with Ronon - those two kind of burn up the screen, really, at times - but the women? None. It's kind of astounding. And, seriously, he's fucking repressed. He's just...God. GAY.

Also, the Big Gay Leather Daddy Who Rules His Country? Yes, John. You're straight. Yep. TOTALLY STRAIGHT.

My ass.

Oooh, what are people saying? Now I'm curious! A few really hated ToR, too.

I really want them to be building up to some storyline about John Sheppard's Big Secret being that he's gay, gay, gay - they're not, obviously, but wouldn't it be happy if they were? Then again, I guess that's what we have fandom for.

YAY FANDOM!

on the downside, people are saying:

- that the game isn't plausible, with the realtime aspect - John and Rodney (mostly Rodney) would have given up and wandered off before anything fun could happen. To which I say, hi, remember the Wraith? because they were just a bit busy, there - I can totally see them doing stuff, and then wandering off, and then coming back and doing more stuff, and then having lots of sex. Er.

- that the solution they came up with (you have seen the horrors of war and you will fight no more!) was not all that plausible/workable. And, I mean, yeah, but I didn't read it as "now everything is fixed, yays!" - I mean, to me it was much more "now that you've seen how this can potentially end, lets the bunch of us sit down and make it NOT END LIKE THAT PLEASE."

(I envision negotiations, and then more negotiations, and then Nola and Sheppard's guy making out in hallways and having hatesex and traumatizing everyone. Also, I totally think that Elizabeth gives them books (or, well, info) about various wars and genocides and how they start and how they can be ended and how ESCALATION DOESN'T HELP, JOHN, RODNEY, and Nola and SG read these things and decide that, in order to reunite their peoples in peace and harmony, there needs to be a ritual joining, either of the two of them or of the Oracles.

Then again, as it's been pointed out, my mind is kind of a scary place.)

- Teyla didn't have enough to do. Which, yeah. They haven't been using her to her full potential, the last few eps. Sometimes, I don't mind it, because it means that John and Rodney get to be cute together, but it does get a little annoying. In response, I am hoping that they do something SUPERCOOL with her in the rest of the season. *crosses fingers*

Ahahaha, I love it. Sheppard doesn't get backstory because, HELLO, Don't Ask, Don't Tell! (Except I'm so totally asking.)

And okay, I can see how those are legitimate complaints, but...eh. It's SGA. I wish they'd work deeper and make it a bit darker and more interesting (like it had been earlier, actually - what happened to that?) but this is fun and silly and I can live with that. I do want more, and I definitely want more Teyla, but I'm totally enjoying it now, and unless they bring out more drivel like "Irresponsible", I'm okay. *g*

Sheppard's lack of chemistry with women is all the more amazing when you consider other roles Joe Flanigan has played. Because Cupid? Dawson's Creek? He had *smoldering* chemistry with Claire and Jen.

(I came here via Noticeboard's friendlist, by the way.)

[identity profile] mrsronweasley.livejournal.com 2006-12-20 02:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, exactly! He's very straight in "Cupid", no mistake about it, and scorching hot with Claire. AND YET.

*waves hello* :)

I kind of desperately want someone who is watching it as an action/adventure sf show (...do these people still exist? no, really, do they? or are we fully on the slash dollar now. because, the way the writing's been lately? i think they know who's paying their wages. and it's US.) to explain how they read this, because, seriously, even when i leave my tin hat at the DOOR I can't see it any other way.

[identity profile] mrsronweasley.livejournal.com 2006-12-20 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
God, I wish I could ask this one guy at work that apparently watches SGA, but I don't him at all, and it'd be weird. But. SRSLY.
