work < fun

I was asleep by 8pm last night. I kind of win.

I was exhausted when I got home yesterday, and kept getting more and more tired as time went on. By 7, I was ready to sleep. By 8, I was dead to the world. It was awesome.

Because, see, work doesn't have much to do, but it's still exhausting, because at any random time, there's something going wrong, or people being pissy, and the morale in this group - for reasons that might be explored at a later juncture - is at an all-time low. People are bitching, people are gnashing teeth, and people are planning to leave, myself included. It's all just ridiculous.

So, not to dwell on the bad stuff, I will ask you all questions! So you can, uh, entertain me? *looks extra-inviting*

See, I was thinking about this yesterday (in my half-asleep mode) - in various fandom, I will inevitably have pairings that I love and will never let go of, and pairings that wig me the fuck out, as well as pairings that I'm okay with, on a short-term basis.

For instance!

Harry Potter - Remus/Sirius, all the way, forever and ever, arooo. Right? While Remus/Tonks makes me look for the next available bucket, for many, MANY reasons. While other R/S shippers are semi-okay with that outcome, I am so totally very much NOT OKAY WITH IT. So, there is that for HP.

due South - RayK/Fraser. ♥ Ray/Ray wigs me out (it's a personal thing), while I can sort of almost maybe? do F/V/K. Sometimes. When I'm, you know, relaxed, or something. Easily pliable. Maybe slightly intoxicated. I can read well-written F/V and enjoy it, even, knowing the rest of the series is out there on the horizon. Is that mean? I dunno. But yeah. I really like Vecchio, I do! I just. You know. KOWALSKI. So.

Now, take SGA - John/Rodney's my default. I like it. It interests me. They're cute and funny and the whole flyboy/geek thing really, uh, butters my muffin. The Hateful Ship of Doom is Sheppard/Weir, because no. Just no. I mean, when a ship can be called "Jizabeth Schweir", you know you have problems. It's boring, it's predictable, they have no chemistry and oh, yeah, John's gay. So, no-go on that one. ([livejournal.com profile] airinshaw, avert your eyes for the rest of this paragraph.) John/Teyla is my ship of hot, as is John/Ronon. 'Cause. HOT. And I realized that I am totally okay with (sometimes) reading Rodney/Teyla, because Rodney getting some from Teyla? Equals HAPPY TIMES in my head. And, finally, I will read OT4 with pleasure. Because it's always an interesting dynamic to me, and as long as everybody gets equal love? I am totally fine with it all. (I don't like people being left out in the cold. It's a thing. I may have issues.)

So. My question is: what about you? Which pairings will never ever leave your heart, even if you may sometimes stray off the beaten path? Which pairings wig you out no matter how hard you try not to let them?

Let's talk love. Because it's Tuesday, and we all need a little love.

dS: I love me the F/K, obviously, but I can do K/V too. F/V and F/K/V weird me out, though. I can see Kowalski with pretty much anyone, but I don't want to see Fraser with anyone else except maybe Smithbauer.

SGA: I default to McShep almost as much because of fandom as because of the show. There are tonnes of other pairings that I love, though (Elizabeth/Teyla! Elizabeth/Radek! OT4! Anything with Lorne! Anything with Cadman!) and only a few pairings that I would rather not read: John/Elizabeth, John/Teyla, Ronon/Teyla. Nothing I'd refuse to read, though, unless we're talking SG-1 crossover; I get jarred in a bad way every time a McShep fic mentions Jack/Daniel. (and now that I've gotten to SG-1: Rodney/Sam is made of win!)

dS: Ha! I actually have a really hard time seeing RayK with anyone but Fraser (and Stella, by default). Isn't that weird? Which is the biggest reason Ray/Ray gives me the willies - it just feels so...wrong. Also, it's just too damn angsty. I don't know. Can't do it. But threesome is okay because, at least, they're ALL there. Though F/K trumps OT3 for me by a loooooong, looooooong mile.

SGA: See, Rodney/Sam I do not like! I have this thing where...I don't like Sam all that much. I don't like that I don't like her, but I...I don't like her. *g* (SG-1 in general has failed to impress me...and I've seen enough of it that I feel it should have. But it didn't.) But Elizabeth/Teyla - REC ME FIC. I really, really want to read that. And Teyla/Cadman just tickles me something silly. *g*

I don't like Sam all that much.

One of the essays in Reading Stargate SG-1 is about how female fans don't really like Sam that much, which makes me sad because I love her a lot.

SG-1 is my second-oldest fandom (the oldest is Star Wars, which isn't currently in play), but it kind of plays like a couple different shows for me: seasons 1 through 4 (Sam/Jack! Daniel/Janet!), which was my main fandom back in high school, and then now, seasons 9 and 10, which I am loving just as much, but very differently (CAM/DANIEL/VALA). And then seasons 5 through 8, which I like, but don't hit my fannish buttons the way the other seasons do.

Possibly I have overthought this.

Also, my personal version of Rodney/Sam doesn't involve anything like happy ever after. It can be boiled down to this: hot sex, followed by lots of awkwardness, followed by gossiping about their boyfriends.

And I was going to say, but I am dum so I forgot: if I remember or read any rec-worthy Elizabeth/Teyla I will certainly send it your way.

Do you want to like Sam? Would you like fic recs that might help?

[livejournal.com profile] surrealphantast is a wonderful writer who loves Sam like you love Ray Kowalski. She's written some great OT3 as well as Sam/Jack and Sam/Daniel and some terrific Sam gen.

If you're interested in seeing if you can find the Sam love, I'd enthusiastically recommend you start with The Blue Jell-O Metaphor.

Awww, thank you! I just might take a look at that. :D
