You know, we all have quirks. We all have things that we can't explain, but that are so deeply ingrained, we can never really get rid of them. For instance, I have a very short trigger for when it comes to people eating loudly. It's like a knee-jerk reaction: I instantly go into rage mode. It's unhealthy, and over the course of my life, I have tried very hard to control my temper when it comes to this kind of stuff. Because, really, it isn't anybody's fault. It's just gross, annoying, and totally inhumane.
So, you know, stuff like people eating with their mouths open. Chewing loudly. Slurping. Sloppy eating; intense finger licking. All of it makes me so mad, I can't even explain it fully. It just does.
So, the thing is, I can't be in the same room with people eating watermelon. Not chunks of watermelon with a fork, but - watermelon. Slices of watermelon, where they slurp around the slice, licking it all up, while the juice runs all down their faces. I. Can't. Do it. I can certainly turn away and not watch, but the infernal slurping is unstoppable - especially if it's a room full of people eating watermelon at the same time.
*shudders*
My family loves watermelon. They do. And I cannot blame them, nor would I wish to take the watermelon away from them. But for years now, even when we have company over, as soon as the watermelon comes out (usually in the summer, in place of tea), I leave the room. I'd rather NOT have to punch somebody in the face, and it would be especially horrible if that somebody happened to be my mother.
All of which is to say, I'm coming down the stairs just now, and on the second landing, I suddenly hear: *slurp* *sluuuuuuuuuurp* *whoooosh* *sluuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurp slurp* *slurrrp*
I come down another step, see my mother with a watermelon, and promptly turn back around and go back to my room to wait for such a time when it will be safe to go downstairs without turning Ninja on my own flesh and blood.
I cannot be the only one with this problem. Anybody else have irrational annoyances like that?
Seriously. Slurping.
