(no subject)
Jan. 5th, 2004 07:35 amSo, I've seen quite a few rec-lists. And suddenly yesterday it hit me - nobody has recced what is possibly THE most amazing R/S fic of all time. At least not lately. I realized this because I found an old folder of mine (in the closet, fittingly enough) with a bunch of printed-out fics, and I found a part of it. It gave me a start, because I'd almost forgotten about it. It isn't on the Kingdom because by the time I had asked the author for it (in the initial run, almost a year ago) she had somehow disappeared from the fandom (which kinda sucked because she was my beta at the time, and I was left beta-less, though now am very happily involved.) Her stories are only archived on one site (apart from the SBRL list, though they're BURIED, 'cause this was WAY THE FUCK BACK WHEN).
It's Anne's "At the Cursed House" and, more importantly, her wondrous "Whom He May Devour."
"ATCH" is Remus-focused, about how he got to come to Hogwarts.
"WHMD" is in the same universe, only this time, they've all left Hogwarts, and when it opens, Remus is being kicked out of the Auror Academy because he's been exposed as a werewolf. He and Sirius are attempting to pick up the pieces of their lost relationship (post-trick) and Voldemort is hard at work on his own plans.
The latter has two warnings: more angsty than you can imagine, and... ready for it? It's un unfinished WiP.
I know, I know...we all hate that. But believe me, where it's left off, perhaps it's better that we don't get to read the rest, because...well. Yeah.
But it is so beautiful, I cannot even tell you. I remember reading WHMD, and having my jaw literally drop open. It was exquisite. The writing was...well, I'm not sure how to explain. There is no easy formula to be found in Anne's writing. The sentences vary, they play with words, they defy all explanations by how breathtaking they are. There is such a love of language, such a deep understanding, such lyrical prose - it's astounding. If you haven't read it...my goodness. Do. And it has one of the most beautifully told love scenes I've ever read - fanfic or no fanfic.
And, just for the record, I've been up for almost an hour and it is 7:48. Oh yeah. I'm good. Going to bed early sure as hell pays off.
Off to take a shower and have tea. And then write.
Tomorrow - I pack. *squashes her squeals*
